██▓▓ Below seethes the versatile underground, ██▓▓
██▓▓ which has been waiting for the next real ██▓▓
██▓▓ musical revolution apart from the usual ██▓▓
██▓▓ fashion fads since the Punk Rock explosion ██▓▓
██▓▓ in 1976. This revolution takes place ██▓▓
██▓▓ stealthily and sows its seeds in different, ██▓▓
██▓▓ local scenes of dance culture. Apart from ██▓▓
██▓▓ Rap the most consistent of all styles proves ██▓▓
██▓▓ to be anglo-American New York and Chicago ██▓▓
██▓▓ House, UK Acidhouse, Italo House, DJ Europop ██▓▓
██▓▓ a la M/A/R/S/S, Electric Body Music from ██▓▓
██▓▓ Belgium. All over the globe local scenes ██▓▓
██▓▓ exist, which aim to outperform each other ██▓▓
██▓▓ with new, trendsetting releases by DJs and ██▓▓
██▓▓ production teams. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ In one of the two German centers of the ██▓▓
██▓▓ dance movement, Frankfurt, ends up the ██▓▓
██▓▓ Stuttgart born, Italian Corrado Izzo. After ██▓▓
██▓▓ finishing school he initially works in the ██▓▓
██▓▓ record distribution of his older brothers ██▓▓
██▓▓ Michele, NEUTON, to get a basic job ██▓▓
██▓▓ training. Yet the prospects of a mere ██▓▓
██▓▓ warehouse existence did not satisfy him ██▓▓
██▓▓ entirely, taking into account that way more ██▓▓
██▓▓ exciting things happened elsewhere. Being at ██▓▓
██▓▓ the right place at the right time he ██▓▓
██▓▓ experienced right there and then the birth ██▓▓
██▓▓ pangs of a worldwide musical revolution and ██▓▓
██▓▓ youth movement, whose repercussions can be ██▓▓
██▓▓ traced even today. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ As business and creativity are still closely ██▓▓
██▓▓ intertwined Corrado Izzo doesnÆt find it ██▓▓
██▓▓ hard to instinctively work closer with the ██▓▓
██▓▓ international NEUTON artist roster on a ██▓▓
██▓▓ creative basis and hence strengthening the ██▓▓
██▓▓ channel for Techno music. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ Having already established the contacts in ██▓▓
██▓▓ his Italian hometown of Naples, he easily ██▓▓
██▓▓ discovers a few, rare Techno pearls in ██▓▓
██▓▓ House-infected Italy and supports them. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ One of these up-and-coming DJs bears the ██▓▓
██▓▓ name Marco Carola: ██▓▓
██▓▓ Born in Naples in 1975 he takes some ██▓▓
██▓▓ interest in music very early and started ██▓▓
██▓▓ playing drums. Inspired by ██▓▓
██▓▓ underground-producers such as Joe T. Vanelli ██▓▓
██▓▓ and the ôtribal House musicö during the ██▓▓
██▓▓ golden age of Acidhouse 1990 he detects the ██▓▓
██▓▓ possibilities of electronic music and trades ██▓▓
██▓▓ his drum set for 2 turntables and a mixer to ██▓▓
██▓▓ perform in clubs. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ The rest is history (as they say). In 1993 ██▓▓
██▓▓ Carola started realizing his own musical ██▓▓
██▓▓ visions by building his own studio. Apart ██▓▓
██▓▓ from great labels such as R&S it was ██▓▓
██▓▓ impossible to buy any Techno records in ██▓▓
██▓▓ Naples. Thus, Carola had to go to London to ██▓▓
██▓▓ score stuff. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ As one of the first Techno-DJs in Naples he ██▓▓
██▓▓ cultivated his reputation as a scene ██▓▓
██▓▓ ambassador whose reverberations could be ██▓▓
██▓▓ heard as far as Germany. ██▓▓
██▓▓ Frankfurt, to be precise. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ At first Corrado only knows the privately ██▓▓
██▓▓ pressed record by Marco Carola that ends on ██▓▓
██▓▓ the desk of NEUTON. A record without proper ██▓▓
██▓▓ distribution. Finally the twain ██▓▓
██▓▓ Techno-protagonists shall meet in person and ██▓▓
██▓▓ work out the idea to use the embryonic ██▓▓
██▓▓ international Techno-network to their ██▓▓
██▓▓ advantage, i.e. their own business ideas. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ In 1996 Carola founds with DESIGN the first ██▓▓
██▓▓ Italian Techno label ever and fate takes its ██▓▓
██▓▓ course. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ At the same time Izzo leaves NEUTON to go ██▓▓
██▓▓ independent at last. On account of his ██▓▓
██▓▓ numerous contacts he catches up easily with ██▓▓
██▓▓ the business and in collaboration with Marco ██▓▓
██▓▓ they finally found ZENIT. The begin of a ██▓▓
██▓▓ success story. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ A year earlier, in 1995, Corrado Izzo called ██▓▓
██▓▓ into being the i220 label. The idea emerged ██▓▓
██▓▓ to possess oneÆs own label platform, ██▓▓
██▓▓ promoting various Electronica artists and ██▓▓
██▓▓ lease their music. The label policy was ██▓▓
██▓▓ simple, musically there should be no rules, ██▓▓
██▓▓ merely two trendsetters / managers who ██▓▓
██▓▓ wanted to run their own label. The ██▓▓
██▓▓ international artist rosters included Heiko ██▓▓
██▓▓ Laux, Anthony Rother as well as the Finnish ██▓▓
██▓▓ Electro visionaries Mr Velcro Fastener. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ 1996 saw the Gadgets imprint come into ██▓▓
██▓▓ being, giving the aptly named Corrado Izzo ██▓▓
██▓▓ project a label home. A ôpure hobby record ██▓▓
██▓▓ companyö, as Izzo points out himself. While ██▓▓
██▓▓ the projectÆs artistic career took a massive ██▓▓
██▓▓ step forward, Gadgets also went on an ██▓▓
██▓▓ extensive European, Asian and US-Tour in ██▓▓
██▓▓ 2000. After a longer, creative break Izzo ██▓▓
██▓▓ announced new recording plans for 2004. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ A long time before Zenit and ELP 1000 saw ██▓▓
██▓▓ the first label collaboration between Izzo ██▓▓
██▓▓ and Carola. Basically a concept label, ██▓▓
██▓▓ purely founded to release 10 records per ██▓▓
██▓▓ 1,000 copies. ôA big success due to a great ██▓▓
██▓▓ hype factorö, grins Izzo. After all, a lot ██▓▓
██▓▓ of Carola classics were released on 1000 ██▓▓
██▓▓ that are still spinned nowadays in clubs ██▓▓
██▓▓ around the globe. The tenth release was an ██▓▓
██▓▓ apt label compilation. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ Out of these four labels resulted the ██▓▓
██▓▓ conglomerate Zenit in January 1998. Izzo ██▓▓
██▓▓ recalls, ôWe thought we should create a new ██▓▓
██▓▓ platform which allowed us to easier channel ██▓▓
██▓▓ the various experiences and ideas in a ██▓▓
██▓▓ compromised form.ö On account of the ██▓▓
██▓▓ domination of pretty mediocre club music the ██▓▓
██▓▓ vision grew to call the label conglomerate ██▓▓
██▓▓ Zenit. All but ôa forum for the presentation ██▓▓
██▓▓ of the Techno cream of the cropö. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ Yet things take a while and before Zenit ██▓▓
██▓▓ took off commercially as well as ██▓▓
██▓▓ artistically, the company tested success via ██▓▓
██▓▓ Ante ZenitÆs strictly limited white label ██▓▓
██▓▓ editions, sent to selected DJs, music ██▓▓
██▓▓ journalists, and trend setters all over the ██▓▓
██▓▓ world. If the test run proved to be ██▓▓
██▓▓ successful the tracks were ôofficiallyö ██▓▓
██▓▓ released on Zenit. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ A few words on Marco Carola: He was not only ██▓▓
██▓▓ a fairly hip DJ whose tracks grooved in all ██▓▓
██▓▓ clubs but soon proved to be cart horse for ██▓▓
██▓▓ Zenit. The cornerstone for ZenitÆs success ██▓▓
██▓▓ was erected in late 1998 with ôFokusö, the ██▓▓
██▓▓ first release and then some. ôIn the ██▓▓
██▓▓ beginning we had only 300 resp. 400 copies. ██▓▓
██▓▓ We took considerable time and effort to work ██▓▓
██▓▓ on the sound and finally release the tracksö ██▓▓
██▓▓ recalls Izzo. The result, 20,000 shifted ██▓▓
██▓▓ units worldwide, stands for itself. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ Zenit continued to rise and soon gained a ██▓▓
██▓▓ reputation as a bonanza for talents. Thus, ██▓▓
██▓▓ many diverse artists took their first steps ██▓▓
██▓▓ on the trendsetting label, such as Rino ██▓▓
██▓▓ Cerrone. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ Meanwhile back in Italy: After the ██▓▓
██▓▓ breakthrough success of Carola Izzo further ██▓▓
██▓▓ exploited the Naples well and founded with ██▓▓
██▓▓ Gaetano Parisio the Art label. ôI got to ██▓▓
██▓▓ know Gaetano via Marco and invested 2 years ██▓▓
██▓▓ of work into the labelö he elaborates. This ██▓▓
██▓▓ work proved to be also successful. As so ██▓▓
██▓▓ many other Naples artists Gaetano soon ██▓▓
██▓▓ became a household name in the international ██▓▓
██▓▓ Techno business: In the beginning of 2000 ██▓▓
██▓▓ Art re-released 1,000 copies of the best ██▓▓
██▓▓ Parisio-Tracks and these tactics paid well ██▓▓
██▓▓ off. Mission accomplished. More Parisio-led ██▓▓
██▓▓ labels are Conform and Southsoul who are ██▓▓
██▓▓ going to work closely with ELP in the ██▓▓
██▓▓ future. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ After Izzo exported Marco CarolaÆs music to ██▓▓
██▓▓ the motherland of Pop music, other Naples ██▓▓
██▓▓ artists duly followed. On account of his ██▓▓
██▓▓ international distribution experience Izzo ██▓▓
██▓▓ chose to work with Prime in the UK, ██▓▓
██▓▓ repeating the feat û once again - with ██▓▓
██▓▓ Gaetano Parisio. Again his business ██▓▓
██▓▓ intuition didnÆt desert him. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ How did Carola fare after his success? He ██▓▓
██▓▓ continued and still continues to this very ██▓▓
██▓▓ day to have a great outpout and produced ██▓▓
██▓▓ many tracks for the great Techno label ██▓▓
██▓▓ mystery Question. ôThe 12ös sold very well, ██▓▓
██▓▓ strangely enough despite the self-chosen ██▓▓
██▓▓ aliasö reports Izzo. The mystery has finally ██▓▓
██▓▓ been solved with the tenth and final ██▓▓
██▓▓ release. ██▓▓

██▓▓ Now nothing could stop the small yet ██▓▓
██▓▓ steadily growing Naples Techno community. ██▓▓
██▓▓ With the Rilis label and Rino Cerrone the ██▓▓
██▓▓ next talent joined ELP. Rilis as well as ██▓▓
██▓▓ Rilis Special were very successful concept ██▓▓
██▓▓ labels which issued limited editions and ██▓▓
██▓▓ folded after ten releases. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ But not only Italy had good Electronica ██▓▓
██▓▓ artists: Portugese Cisco Ferreira aka The ██▓▓
██▓▓ Advent influenced the whole international ██▓▓
██▓▓ Techno scene early on with ôElements of ██▓▓
██▓▓ lifeö. Originally a studio engineer in ██▓▓
██▓▓ England, he founded with Kombination ██▓▓
██▓▓ Research his own, successful label which ██▓▓
██▓▓ fitted in perfectly with the ELP philosphy. ██▓▓
██▓▓ Thus, in 2002 he finally hooked up with ELP ██▓▓
██▓▓ and has become the second most commercially ██▓▓
██▓▓ successful ELP act. ██▓▓
