Ernesto's groundbreaking album "A New Blues" is just that,
a 10 track introduction to a new way of recording and
performing an infectious and highly contemporary form of
blues. It's a new blues made by a daringly eclectic,
boundary-defying young music maker who prefers to record
his music without a net.

Basic Soul:
As you may have gathered by the title, all of the ten
tracks on Ernesto's latest album have a blues influence.
Mixing blues and electronic music may not sound good on
paper but this is tastefully and beautifully arranged.
Personally I've been hammering 'another ten' which
featured on the 7" single but ensure you check out the
wonderful 'Father'. Maybe more producers should move to
Birmingham because it's worked wonders for Ernesto.

Umgebung û das hat der in Birmingham lebende Jonatan
BΣckelie aus G÷teborg zum ⁿberspannenden Charakteristikum
seines Debⁿtalbums erkoren. Er verquirlt das konzentrierte
Elektronik-Substrat von Rare Groove und Downbeat mit
Bluesanleihen, wobei die leicht verrutschten, nie
offensiven Beats auch Lebenszeichen von sich geben und hie
und da in den Vordergrund trollen. Jazz findet man hier
genau so, wie Soul û war doch sein Vater Wanderprediger
und Musik schon seit jeher Bestandteil seiner
Sozialisation. So zeugen selbst unbeholfen dahertapsende
PianoklΣnge von musikalischer SouverΣnitΣt. Die geruhsamen
und chilligen Sounds wirken dabei jederzeit warm und
unscharf, wenngleich auch teilweise etwas bemⁿht und
langatmig.
╗A NEW BLUES½ ist eine eklektische Angelegenheit, die man
in stark abgewanderter Form auch bei Beanfield vorfindet,
auf deren Album der Mitzwanziger Gast-Vocals beisteuern
durfte. Kein Wunder, denn seine Stimme ist emphatisch und
wirkt in den sch÷nsten Momenten so geborgen wie ein an der
Nase schon ganz abgewetzter TeddybΣr. (maw)
