Suburban Milwaukee's filled to the brim with young bands who love anything noisy
and/or spastic. Standing with cocked head and shrugging shoulders above that
pack are the Box Social, who write smart pop songs with sharp hooks that cut
through the feedback and the falling-over-oneself.
The Box Social's third EP, Blown to Bits, is their tightest and brightest yet,
while still scraping the dirt off the basement walls and letting it fall upon
themselves. Singer Nick JunkuncÆs melodic growl retains a bit of that teen-geek
snot, Nick Woods lays down the thick riffs and noise blasts, Brian Peoplis
bashes drums like a demolition derby, and new bass player Matt Kuehl lathers up
a big fat rumble.
