█░█ What can I say about Benji. We first heard █░█
█░█ Benji's music 7 years ago when Magic Marker █░█
█░█ released it's first compilation "We Can Still Be █░█
█░█ Friends". Benji's song "Tom's New Wave Movie". █░█
█░█ His song was added last minute and ended up on █░█
█░█ the last song on the release. This is where █░█
█░█ Benji's cult following began, Other bands on the █░█
█░█ compilation started covering "Tom's New Wave █░█
█░█ Movie". Benji put his home recordings on tape █░█
█░█ releases and sent them out to whoever wanted one. █░█
█░█ These tapes were copied and spread out while █░█
█░█ everyone waited for his debut album. He moved █░█
█░█ from Providence to Portland, OR, to Sacramento, █░█
█░█ CA, then to Brooklyn where he currently resides. █░█
█░█ All the while Benji has continued writing and █░█
█░█ self recording his songs and for whatever reason █░█
█░█ an album was never released. A one sided 7" was █░█
█░█ released which seemed futile since by now he had █░█
█░█ written and recorded a hundred songs by now. One █░█
█░█ of his biggest admirers, Tullycraft, even covered █░█
█░█ the Benji Cossa song "Knockout" on their 2002 █░█
█░█ release Beat, Surf, Fun. So meanwhile there is █░█
█░█ still no Benji Record. While living in Brooklyn █░█
█░█ Benji contributes a song titled "Volcano" to the █░█
█░█ independent film Zero Day. He also contributes █░█
█░█ the song "April" to Hisham Bharoocha's (ex-Black █░█
█░█ Dice drummer, now in Pixeltan (DFA) and Among █░█
█░█ Natives) curated They Keep Me Smiling import █░█
█░█ compilation, this is where we find him again. █░█
█░█ While living in Portland, Benji and I lived in █░█
█░█ the same house. He would be added to some of the █░█
█░█ shows at the house and contributed yet another █░█
█░█ song to a compilation. "A House Full of Friends". █░█
█░█ Along with his song submission he included some █░█
█░█ of his other songs he had been working on. We █░█
█░█ fell in love with Benji all over again. We █░█
█░█ couldn't believe he hadn't released a proper █░█
█░█ album yet and decided to correct that situation. █░█
█░█ Around the same time I attended a wedding of █░█
█░█ close friends. While at the wedding I heard many █░█
█░█ Benji Cossa songs played. These had come from his █░█
█░█ original cassettes he released himself.. If you █░█
█░█ haven't figured out what my story is trying to █░█
█░█ say it is this Benji and his songs are brilliant █░█
█░█ and unforgettable. In today's music scene Benji █░█
█░█ Cossa is and oasis and his songs are the little █░█
█░█ engine that could. Proof just by putting songs █░█
█░█ out there they will find ears to listen to them. █░█
█░█ He has been interviewed for Tokion and The Deli █░█
█░█ magazines without any official releases. Luckily █░█
█░█ Benji had been collecting his recordings █░█
█░█ throughout the years and putting the songs in █░█
█░█ chronological order for an eminent 4 disc debut █░█
█░█ album. We convinced him to scale it down a bit █░█
█░█ and we present the first of two albums that have █░█
█░█ been almost 10 years in the making. Benji Cossa █░█

█░█ are low-fi psych folk pop gems with an incredible █░█
█░█ amount of charm. It has a feel of John Darnielle █░█
