█░█ existed in the first place. Such was the case █░█
█░█ when Kathryn Calder, the lead singer and █░█
█░█ keyboardist of Mint's latest signing, Immaculate █░█
█░█ Machine, finally sat down face-to-face with New █░█
█░█ Pornographers lead singer Carl "AC" Newman. █░█
█░█ Together they filled in the branches of their █░█
█░█ family tree, and by an amazing turn of █░█
█░█ coincidence, the connections revealed that in █░█
█░█ fact Kathryn Calder is Carl Newman's niece. █░█
█░█ █░█
█░█ We can thank the mad intrepid skillz of Nardwuar █░█
█░█ the Human Serviette and the Evaporators for █░█
█░█ really piecing this rock 'n' roll puzzle together █░█
█░█ -- various teenaged incarnations of Immaculate █░█
█░█ Machine opened for the Evaporators for years at █░█
█░█ Victoria all ages shows. Through their drunken, █░█
█░█ middle-aged haze, the Evaporators were always █░█
█░█ amazed by the prowess of each band Kathryn, Brook █░█
█░█ and Luke performed in. The Evaporators eventually █░█
█░█ got to know the trio, and through casual █░█
█░█ conversation over several years, managed to █░█
█░█ figure the whole thing out, eventually █░█
█░█ successfully uniting Kathryn with her Uncle Carl, █░█
█░█ the Pornographer. That would be enough of a story █░█
█░█ in itself, but of course it gets better. █░█
█░█ █░█
█░█ Carl Newman has an extreme ear for talent. Anyone █░█
█░█ who has ever listened to his records knows that. █░█
█░█ Like any great leader, he surrounds himself with █░█
█░█ the best. Just ask Dan Bejar, Neko Case or John █░█
█░█ Collins. Carl was quick to notice that musical █░█
█░█ talent indeed runs in his family, and hence, █░█
█░█ Kathryn's vocals and keyboards are all over her █░█
█░█ uncle's upcoming New Pornographers album. Carl █░█
█░█ was also taken aback by the exceptional talent █░█
█░█ level of Immaculate Machine. █░█
█░█ █░█
█░█ And that's how we got involved. Let's just say it █░█
█░█ didn't take much convincing, and that's not █░█
█░█ "one-sheet" bullshit. At an average age of █░█
█░█ twenty-three, Immaculate Machine makes an █░█
█░█ immediate impact with sharp, sophisticated pop █░█
█░█ that seems beyond their age. They are a █░█
█░█ power-trio in the finest tradition of the phrase; █░█
█░█ not a single note is wasted. Soaring and steady █░█
█░█ three-part harmonies, rotating lead vocals, █░█
█░█ intricate melodies and thought-provoking lyrics █░█
█░█ are compacted neatly with keyboards, guitar, and █░█
█░█ drums (no bass guitar -- Kathryn handles that █░█
█░█ instrument with her left hand). █░█

█░█ The debut album, Ones and Zeros, comes out on █░█
█░█ Mint on September 6 -- the first four cuts alone █░█
