█░ today," claims a young club-goer in an improvised dance club ░█
█░ situated in a fifth floor artist's loft overlooking ░█
█░ Tijuana's hyper-busy Revolution avenue. The music the young ░█
█░ dancer refers to is known locally as "Nortec", a hectic mix ░█
█░ of Norteno music, Tex-Mex sounds, Ranchera guitars, Banda ░█
█░ Sinaloense horns and beats mixed with electronic sounds that ░█
█░ glisten with depth, echo, groove and reverb. The music ░█
█░ starts, everybody slids and moves. A sound like this only ░█
█░ could have been dreamed up in a plce like Tijuana. -Intro ░█
█░ quote in the CD booklet, a fairly good summary of Nortec. ░█
█░ This is a fairly new movement, if I'm not mistaken. It ░█
█░ started sometime in '99, with musicians sampling local ░█
█░ sounds then mixing that into electronic music. The other ░█
█░ arts followed, fashion and graphic design, borrowing for ░█
█░ their heritage and blending in the styles of the rest of the ░█
█░ world. I dig it, and you may too - so take a listen, and buy ░█
█░ this fine album if you like it, o'course. ░█
