░ The most anticipated urban release by one of the hottest producer, ░
░ singer, and songwriters around, 'Chapter One' features Thara (Desert ░
░ Storm), Stack Bundles, Jin (Rough Riders), Kash boys, Ken Hell and ░

░ Originally slated for release in March 2005, Israel has been revising the ░
░ album and freshening up the track listing after the entire album was ░
░ leaked for download on the internet. For most artists this would be a ░
░ devastating blow, but for Israel, with a catalogue of more than 450 ░
░ songs, it simply meant going through the files and pulling out some more ░
░ audio gems. ░

░ Included on 'Chapter One' are the hot singles 'Wake Up With You', 'Old ░
░ Skool Luv' and Work Da Middle Pt 2'. ░

░ The Alternative View: ░
░ Caution! The following review contains home truths and a substantial ░
░ amount of sarcasm. Please only read on if you are a hater of all things ░
░ generic. ░

░ Oh goodie, it seems that generic, mass produced, uninspiring "urban" ░
░ music has finally begun to be released by Australian artists. Far from ░
░ the classic 80s sound that the press release claims Israel's Chapter One ░
░ is a rehash of, this sounds more like every "urban" single from the ░
░ charts since 2003. Devoid of originality and so stereotypical it hurts ░
░ your ears this is exactly why Australian hip-hop and true RnB like John ░
░ Legend will never chart in Australia. ░
░ ░
░ I suppose it is overly harsh to criticise Israel as an artist, as this ░
░ album seems more a product of his major label backing - and Sony BMG is ░
░ as big as it gets - than his own mind and creative direction. It didn't ░
░ take long to put me offside here, in fact it was track two 'How Long'. ░
░ RnB crooners should never ever, ever try and rap. It is an insult to ░
░ their talent as a singer and the brilliant MCs around to hear basic lines ░
░ delivered awkwardly over ripped off Neptunes and Jus Blaze basslines. ░
░ Sadly it doesn't get a lot better, whether he is crooning about giving ░
░ you "2 uppercuts in the club" on Comin 2 Getcha, or recycling tired ░
░ themes of playerism (I know it's not a word but you get my point), to ░
░ track after track mentioning of getting busy - see My Girl or Wake Up ░
░ With You for cringe worthy examples. The major label backing has done ░
░ one, possibly two, good things. Firstly it has brought Ken Hell over to ░
░ guest on Full Force. Sounding dope but really out of place, his verse is ░
░ the album's high point. The other bonus is the appearance of Jin, the ░
░ freestyle king actually sounding better than he did on a lot of his own ░
░ solo album on 'Comin 2 Getcha'. ░
░ ░
░ I'm not sure what motivates the record labels to jump on every bandwagon ░
░ they see in America, I had hoped lessons were learnt from the god awful ░
░ album produced by Selwyn and we could stay away from "urban". ░
░ Unfortunately 'Chapter One' proves otherwise. Now my ranting and raving ░
░ aside this will probably chart, sell well to every 13 year old fan of ░
░ Nelly and Ja Rule and set Israel up for the rest of his life. There is so ░
░ much better music out there folks, please take a bit of time and find it. ░
