vienna scientists recordings was founded in 1999 by jⁿrgen drimal.
the purpose of this enterprise is to present a common ground for
contemporary electronic music. the label moreover functions as a
booster for austrian djs and producers alike, which even works
internationally. vienna scientists recordings self-perception is a
homebase and interlink of various musical reference cultures. the
spectrum of styles, deduced from all releases up to date, can be
drawn from the shelves of black music culture: it is a
well-balanced mixture of funk, soul, jazz, reggae, latin, brasil,
rÆnÆb and hip hop which has been moulded into a sound that
viennaÆs djs and producers have invented themselves, commonly
branded as the ævienna electronic schoolÆ. both, the native black
influences and the viennese way of electronic producing, are
fertile ground for what has become the distinct sound of all
outputs by the label.
the input for the many vienna scientists releases, has been
delivered by talented newcomers as well as exclusive label
artists, like freedom satellite, shanti roots, and the menheads.
additionally, there have been releases resulting from specified
projects, such as æa family affairÆ or æhuman flyÆ, which
demonstrate the scientistsÆ many facets plus their international
joint ventures. the common denominator of all productions is a
shared cultural and musical backgound of the part-taking artist.
jⁿrgen drimal, who is a passionate record collector, dj and
producer is fully in charge of the actual gathering process for
the vienna scientists compilations, which means he chooses the
artists to be on the record. being the head of a & r, he keeps eye
and ear on fresh talents, as well as exclusive tracks of
established artists. looking at the labelÆs balance, it is plain
to see that jⁿrgen drimal did his job successfully: after a
constant rise in numbers for the vienna scientists compilation
series i-iii (1998-2001), part iv û æfive years of solid groovesÆ
is a bag full of seductive electronic music which can only be
