Beginning his DJing career only 5 years ago, Azzido Da Bass
has become a legend on the German club circuit and one of
the country's most highly-rated exports. Though a relative
newcomer in the UK, Azzido achieved a similar legendary
status following the release of 1999's most infectious club
track, 'Dooms Night'. An unofficial hymn for the Love
Parade, 'Dooms Night' was championed by keys DJs Pete Tong,
Norman Cook, EZ, Judge Jules, Underworld, Hooligan and
Tanith and spilled over into each and every genre of dance
music. Through a Timo Maas remix, the single later found
itself in the national charts, reaching No. 38 in Germany
and No. 8 in Britain!!
Inspired by a number of local and international DJs, Ingo
Martens decided to become a DJ in 1996. After taking the
name Azzido Da Bass, Ingo scored his first gig in Hamburg in
1997 and has since become a key-figure in the German techno
scene. Four years later Azzido boasts a weekly residency at
the Poison Club in Dusseldorf and bi-monthly appearances at
Hamburg's Phonodrome. Azzido has also been taking his sound
worldwide with appearances for clubs in Austria, Italy, USA
and the UK where he has regular bookings at Slinky, Passion,
Godskitchen and many more.
Before long Azzido Da Bass grew tired of spinning only
other's records and started his own production work after
meeting his partner, songwriter and producer, Stevo Wilcken
in 1998. Since the success of 'Dooms Night', Ingo and Stevo
have worked on a number of remix projects. After applying
the midas touch to Jark Prongo's 'Moving Through Your
System' they finished remixes for Carl Cox's 'Phuture 2000',
Winx' 'Don't Laugh' and D.H.S.' 'The House Of God'. A
compilation album, 'Dooms Night 01', quickly followed and
shot straight to the Top 30 in the German sales charts.
Azzido Da Bass' follow up single 'Speed (Can U Feel It)' is
now set for release. Featuring vocals from Roland Clarke of
Urban Soul who also worked on Fatboy Slim's 'Star 69' and
Armand Van Helden's 'Flowers', this track is a cross-genred
groove that will rock dancefloors around the globe. A deep
and throbbing bass push the track forward while a
funk-fuelled rhythm provides the ass-shaking element that
will propel this track to monstrous success.
Ingo Martens AKA Azzido Da Bass has established a unique
mixture of progressive trance and techno that has carved him
a reputation as one of the most respected DJs in Germany.
Meanwhile, Azzido looks forward to world domination as his
legendary DJ sets begin to conquer America and the rest of
the globe.
Although 'Dooms Night' is his debut release, 30 year old
Azzido da Bass has been in the club circuit for many years.
Then known to his friends as Ingo Martens, he started
collecting techno records in the mid-eighties while becoming
a regular punter in various clubs in the North of Germany.
After years of watching a variety of local and well known
international DJs of his beloved genre at work, Azzido
decided in 1996 to become a professional DJ himself. Since
then he has become a key figure on the German techno scene
with residencies in various clubs all over Germany,
Switzerland, Austria and Denmark. Calling himself Azzido da
Bass, he established a unique blend of progressive trance
and techno that not only made him one of the most respected
DJs in his home town Hamburg, but a household name in the
rest of Germany. Sets at the annual Love Parade in Berlin,
DJ meeting in Bochum and the Viva Club rotation in Spain
rate amongst his highlights of his career to date. His UK
gigs include Slinky (Bournemouth and Bristol), Passion,
Inside Out and he is also one of the headlining artists for
Creamfields, Australia 2002.
Azzido da Bass soon wasn't satisfied with merely spinning
other peoples records and started producing his own tunes.
His first release, a kind of unofficial theme of Love Parade
1999 called 'Dooms Night' was released in Germany in the
summer of 1999. Key DJs like Da Hool, Timo Mass, Tanith,
Judge Jules, Pete Tong, Norman Cook, Underworld and many
others were spinning this brilliant techno stomper. Although
it's nearly a year now since 'Dooms Night' came out, his 2nd
release (out soon) is sure to have the same impact as his
first tune.
Since the success of his debut, Azzido was involved in a
handful of remixes. After having remixed the Jark Prongo
'Moving Through Your System' and having released the single
'Game of Death' with the desperados via PIAS he has
currently finished his remixes for Carl Cox 'Phuture 2000',
Winx 'Don't Laugh' and Hurley Todd's 'Sunstorm' to be
released in the near future. He has also mixed German mixed
compilation 'Trance Nation 01.00' and also 'Trance Nation
02.00' with the well known producer and DJ Ayla.
