░ R E L E A S E I N F O R M A T I O N
Marchitect is a rap vocalist and producer from the hip-hop duo The
49ers. He releases solo albums on his own imprint Yaheard Records.
His career started as a child with the release of his single "Dead
In Your Tracks" at the age of 13. The single which he wrote and
mixed was produced by his older brother "Grouchy" Greg Watkins who
would go on to found Allhiphop.com.
He would go on to release a string of college radio chart topping
singles with the group The Outfit which featured Marchitect, child
hood friend Jas Mace, Din Thomas (who would go on to become a UFC
fighting legend), Assasinate (another of Marchitect's siblings),
Harun Karim, Mark B, Herb Neal, Drew Basement, and once again Greg
Watkins on production with turntable contributions from Ben Willis
(who would go on to found Indie Pop). Their album "The Soundtrack to
Life" was the first time Marchitect's production was featured
prominently, and the 12 inch singles from the group still remain
collectors items.
The group disbanded after one album which led Marchitect and Jas
Mace to form The 49ers. After releasing the album Equilibrium
independently, The 49ers inked a deal with the 13 Billion Yen a year
company Media Factory (who at the time marketed Pokemon, and John
Lennon through out Asia) based out of Tokyo Japan. Through Media
Factory's Goon Trax, label The 49ers released "State of the Art",
and "The Ultrasound".
They appeared on the first 6 volumes of the popular "In Ya Mellow
Tone" compilations and collaborated with dozens of Japanese artists
quickly making them a staple in the Japanese Hip Hop Market. Their
collaboration with Re:plus topped the iTunes charts, and at one
point they appeared on 3 albums in the top ten of Japan's hip-hop
charts. Their song "Never Say Never" is the opening theme to the hit
Japanese cartoon "Dangan Ronpa", and they have toured the country
and world several times.
Marchitect would go on to perform with a band Fat Daddy Has Been
which started as a side project to The 49ers and became very popular
in the Philadelphia music market where they are still one of the
most sought after live bands that play original music. They released
three albums independently "Self Titled", "Who Want's Seconds" and
"Cannot Kill My Music" which featured appearances from Dice Raw from
the Roots and The Last Emperor.
In the video world Marchitect has directed videos for all of his
music projects, as well as a critically acclaimed documentary "Keep
It Kool: The Kool Keith Story" which documents the life of Kool
Keith through rare performance footage and an interview conducted by
Marchitect.
The 49ers and Marchitect have shared stages across the world with a
variety of acts such as Ice T, Common, Wiz Khalifa, The Brand New
Heavies, Ozomatli, Styles P, Afrika Bambaataa, Lupe Fiasco, The
Wailers, Machine Gun Kelly on a variety of stages from South By
Southwest, to Midem, to The Fuji Rock Festival.
