The deep house crew brings you once again a high quality release of
soulful dance music.. music with emotion that deserves the promotion..

Ross Hillard was born in 1980 and as a young boy dreamed of being
Goalkeeper for his beloved Arsenal. With this in mind he practiced
every day and when at the age of nine was offered a trial with his
home team Leicester City, he was left so traumatized that he felt
the only option was to pursue a career in music. Luckily for us all
he was also very talented in this field and when a demo of Ross'
music fell into the hands and CD player of Martin Iveson, the man
behind the Atjazz project and owner of Mantis Recordings. He wasted
      no time in contacting Ross.

Martin æAtjazz' (see separate biography) began working with Ross
in 2001. He had been looking for a project to produce other than
his own for some time. Ross' songs turned out to be the perfect
      material for this.

The first Magic Number single æThat Day' was released in the summer
of 2001. The track was an incredibly well received debut. House
legend Larry Heard, Ben Watt (Everything But The Girl) and Laurent
Garnier all got in touch to sing its praises. The music press were
also very favourable with their comments.

The follow up single æSorry' featuring Jane Hamilton, gave a further
indication of the abilities of Ross, both as a musician and a lyricist.
These skills teamed with Jane's soulful vocals, the soaring string
section plus Iveson's immaculate programming and production have
helped shape the track into a much sought after future classic.

As well as Jane Hamilton, other collaborators on the forthcoming album
include the vocalists Dawne B. Stewart, whose voice made Atjazz's
æHarmony' an indispensable Mantis Recordings release and Clara Hill
(Jazzanova / Sonar Kollektiv), who has co-written the track ôTurn Backö.

The album is now finished and is sounding fantastic. Here at Mantis
we felt that with our heavy release commitments, we couldn't give
æThat Day' the release it most definitely deserves. We have however
found a fantastic home for the album with Germany's Stereo Deluxe.

As well as writing music, Ross DJ's regularly around the UK, with
his turntable fusion winning many friends on the floor. He is also
a face on the vibrant Midlands band scene and has been on tour with
several firmly funked outfits, the bass guitar as his weapon of
choice. Ross has now put together a band to take the Magic Number
sound live. They have performed just a handful of exclusive gigs
and it's already clear from the incredible reaction that they are
building a solid fan base. We're sure Ross will be playing out and
about a lot more as the Magic Number sound reaches more ears.

Ross lists some of his influences as, Jaco Pastorius, Weather Report,
George Duke, Novi singers, John Coltrane, Curtis Mayfield, Marvin
      Gaye and D'Angelo.

     remember to support artists.

5 years deephouse. 5 years of nice music all over the place...
and it's still only about what we love.

you all know the situation nowadays, security is a nice thing to have,
p2p, people selling etc...i wont waste anymore words on that now.

we'd like to thank all the groups releasing quality electronic music,
the siteops who host the nice tunes, and all the people that really
make the scene a nice place to participate.

now enjoy the music and if you like it, support the artists.
