This EP is the first in a series of sampler EPs entitled "Global
Guidance." The concept driving this series is the need to bring the
global house community together on vinyl. This is not a compilation-
they are all original tracks created with this specific EP in mind.
Hopefully, this first release will be successful and we will be able
to continue uniting fellow members of the HOUSE. Global Guidance I
(GDR005) starts off with a track by DJ Deep. We know Deep through
listening to his mix tapes from Radio Nova in Paris. In search of
French producers, we asked him if he had any ideas and he told us to
call him back. When we did, he played us a little bit of this
Blazesque, piano driven track over the phone and we freaked. A couple
of weeks later we had "Signature" pumping out of our DAT machine. The
next track on the A-side was produced by Chris Brann of the Wamdue
Kids. Our friend Charles Webster had told us that Chris was a big fan
of our releases to date. So we called him up and he said that he had
a track in mind for our label, which would fit on this kind of EP.
And two days later, we received this amazing, techno-influenced,
track which rises and falls as the journey continues. The track is
appropriately called "Echoes & Instruments." Dino and Terry from
Crash Records in Toronto did the first track on the B-side. As soon
as we told them about the project they vowed they would do us a track
which people would never expect from them. And sure enough,
"Sugarcane" will open up new doors for them. With it's disco bassline
and live guitar, this track is going to surprise more than a few
people. The final track on the EP is from the 'quiet' one of the
group, Scotland's Yogi Haughton p/k/a The Soul Brother Six Combo.
This spring we went to Edinborough in our UK travels. It is here that
we went to eat Mexican food and have a few drinks with Yogi and
posse. We ended up in his basement, where, with a silver glimmer from
his teeth, he played us "A Lil' Jazz Relief".
