This track recalls the ║ │ │║ band's classic material with a more diversified ║ │ │║ twist to it that shows how the band has ║ │ │║ progressed since its inception. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ Another outstanding track is ''A Grain of ║ │ │║ Truth'' that convinces once more with ║ │ │║ atmospheric keyboard sounds but a stronger focus ║ │ │║ on the vocals. Grim growls and scary narrative ║ │ │║ parts meet uplifting melodic lead vocals that ║ │ │║ are contrasted by powerful female guest vocals. ║ │ │║ It's a pleasant surprise to hear these grounded ║ │ │║ female vocals which are a welcome change from ║ │ │║ the high-pitched classically trained vocalists ║ │ │║ that are usually employed in the symphonic power ║ │ │║ metal genre. Once again, this song has majestic ║ │ │║ proportions that would suit it for a fantasy ║ │ │║ epic. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ A final song that needs to be pointed out is the ║ │ │║ mid-paced ''Straight Inside Your Winter'' with ║ │ │║ its moving piano sounds, playful violin parts ║ │ │║ and a particularly dominant bass guitar. The ║ │ │║ track finds the perfect balance between smoother ║ │ │║ verses with once again diversified vocal efforts ║ │ │║ and a more engaging and memorable chorus. This ║ │ │║ track would have been an excellent single ║ │ │║ choice. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ Even though some tracks can be considered as ║ │ │║ routine efforts by Elvenking's standards, none ║ │ │║ of them sounds bland and all of them are ║ │ │║ performed with genuine passion. Actually, the ║ │ │║ more you listen to this output, the more it will ║ │ │║ grow on you. The more dominant symphonic ║ │ │║ elements on this release even make it stand out ║ │ │║ in Elvenking's discography without getting away ║ │ │║ from the essence and spirit of the band. The ║ │ │║ production is particularly great as well as the ║ │ │║ symphonic elements never sound overwhelming and ║ │ │║ even bass guitar and drums sound organic. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ The limited edition of this release offers value ║ │ │║ for money with four bonus tracks and a total ║ │ │║ running time of just below eighty minutes. The ║ │ │║ four songs are in fact rare Japanese bonus ║ │ │║ tracks from several previous albums. I ║ │ │║ particularly appreciate the catchy ''The Open ║ │ │║ Breach'' with its irresistible lead melody that ║ │ │║ would have been one of the highlights on the ║ │ │║ underrated narrative conceptual record The ║ │ │║ Scythe. It's great to finally have this track in ║ │ │║ my playlist. ║ │ │║ ║ │ │║ Elvenking offers us a highly entertaining early ║ │ │║ Christmas gift. The limited version of this folk ║ │ │║ and power metal gem is a rare case where both ║ │ │║ quality and quantity are satisfactory.
