█░ ░█
█░ Picture the scene. A warm summer's evening on a tranquil ░█
█░ Mediterranean beach. Tanned figures soak up the last of the ░█
█░ day's rays as on the horizon a golden red sun drops slowly ░█
█░ into the ocean. A sublime soundtrack drifts through the air, ░█
█░ gently emotive melodies and lazily funky beats mixing with ░█
█░ the rhythm of waves lapping softly against the shore. The ░█
█░ trials and tribulations of the 9-5 grind seem a lifetime ░█
█░ away as you kick back, relax, soak up the atmosphere and ░█
█░ chill. ░█
█░ ░█
█░ In Ibiza, chilling comes naturally. The island's clubs may ░█
█░ be all about ferocious hedonism and late-night party action, ░█
█░ but elsewhere the vibes are of an entirely different ░█
█░ flavour. From Cafe Mambo to Salinas beach, from the caves of ░█
█░ Atlantis to the pools of a thousand hotels and villas, ░█
█░ you'll find seriously laid-back folk enjoying the ░█
█░ intoxicating recipe of hot sun, cool music and that little ░█
█░ touch of Balearic magic that makes Ibiza the spiritual home ░█
█░ of hardcore chilling. As the team behind the "Chilled Ibiza" ░█
█░ albums will tell you, it's an addictive experience and not ░█
█░ one you want to give up when you go home. ░█
█░ ░█
█░ Back in Britain, getting mellow can be a little more ░█
█░ problematic and sometimes even the most chilled of people ░█
█░ need a bit of a helping hand. Now there's not much that can ░█
█░ be done about our often unchilled native weather or the ░█
█░ rather frenetic modern lifestyle of many Brits, but luckily ░█
█░ there's an antidote that can overcome these and all other ░█
█░ obstacles to pure deep-chilled bliss. It is, of course, the ░█
█░ music, the most essential ingredient of a decent chill-out ░█
█░ session in the UK, Ibiza or anywhere else. Thus, in summer ░█
█░ 2000, was born "Chilled Ibiza", an LP which sought to ░█
█░ encapsulate the ice-frosted musical philosophy of the White ░█
█░ Isle and help stressed-out punters all over the country find ░█
█░ a more peaceful headspace. 400,000 album sales later, it's ░█
█░ safe to say we've helped a fair few people chill out. ░█
█░ ░█
█░ One year later and it's time for the next instalment. This ░█
█░ time around, we've enlisted the help of seminal chill-out ░█
█░ jock Lenny "Ibizarre" Krarup to aid you in your chilling ░█
█░ pleasure. The producer behind the respected "Ambient ░█
█░ Collection" LPs, Lenny has taken time off from lounging ░█
█░ around the pool at his hillside Ibizan villa to deliver a ░█
█░ selection of moods and grooves guaranteed to soothe your ░█
█░ cares away and leave you feeling mellower than a Dutchman at ░█
█░ a dope convention. ░█
█░ ░█
█░ The journey begins with the Ibizarre mix of the Doors' majestic ░█
█░ "Riders On The Storm", with the haunting vocals and evocative ░█
█░ musical textures of the original given a little extra 21st ░█
█░ century groove power by Lenny himself. Bringing things bang up ░█
█░ to date, the soul-dripped harmonies and delicate melodies of ░█
█░ "Destiny" mark another gorgeous outing from Zero 7, an act who ░█
█░ have gone into big things since their "This World" was included ░█
█░ on the first "Chilled Ibiza" LP. The warm dubwise bass and ░█
█░ rolling hip hop beats of Ibizarre's "Ordinary Day" give way to ░█
█░ the achingly beautiful "Here With Me" from Dido and the rich ░█
█░ instrumentation of Nightmares On Wax's "Nights Introlude". The ░█
█░ anthemic future-soul of the Long Trip Cajun Version of Randy ░█
█░ Crawford's exquisite "Cajun Moon" are included next to the ░█
█░ Andrew Loog Oldham Orchestra's "The Last Time", a lost gem ░█
█░ which provided more than a little inspiration for The Verve's ░█
█░ "Bittersweet Symphony" hit. And bringing CD1 to a suitably ░█
█░ tranquil close we have the stunningly atmospheric electronics ░█
█░ of Leftfield's "Melt" and the old-skool ambience of "Rachel's ░█
█░ Song", for many the high point of Vangelis's "Blade Runner" ░█
█░ soundtrack. ░█
█░ ░█
█░ CD2 eases us into action with the off-key jazz loops of DJ Food's ░█
█░ "Turtle Soup" and the deceptively infectious hooks of Blue States's ░█
█░ "Your Girl". The swirling harmonics of Four Tel's "Parks" give way ░█
█░ to the deliciously melancholy "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?" from ░█
█░ Moby. The deep-frozen funk of Morcheeba's "The Sea" is included ░█
█░ alongside Roy Ayers's stone cold soul classic "Everybody Loves ░█
█░ The Sunshine", while the elegantly-worked electronica of Coldcut's ░█
█░ "Autumn Leaves" provides a sumptuously chilled-out finale. ░█
█░ ░█
█░ In a world that seems to be speeding up by the minute, where it ░█
█░ sometimes seems impossible to see beyond the day-to-day struggle ░█
█░ of targets and deadlines, appointments and overtime, it has never ░█
█░ been more important to take time out every once in a while to chill. ░█
█░ So stick this album on the stereo, pour yourself a cool drink and ░█
█░ let the music do its work. Happy chilling. ░█
