Release Notes:

Amazing funk from one of the greatest deep soul singers of the 70s -- the
legendary Lyn Collins, heard here on a 20 track set of tunes all produced by
James Brown! James worked with a number of female vocalists in the 60s and 70s
-- but Collins was arguably the strongest, and the one with the biggest
potential for challenging the ranks of better-charted female vocalists at the
time. She's got a totally kicking way of putting over a tune -- one that's
steeped in gospel and southern soul traditions, but lean and clean enough to
bristle alongside the tightness of the grooves she was getting on record from
the JBs! In fact, most of the tracks on the set crackle like the best funk tunes
from early 70s James Brown or JBs -- and the collection goes out of its way to
bring together the hardest-hitting tunes by Lyn from these years -- getting past
some of the slower album tracks to go for some key rare singles!

This collection from Spectrum is the first time James Brown's "funky soul siren"
has ever been anthologised on CD. Lyn Collins is to date, one of the most
sampled female singers of all time. She sadly passed away earlier in 2005 and if
ever proof were needed what a truly expectional talent she was, this very first
official retrospective does just that.
