Message board freaks have been rattling their sticks about this twelve
since it was announced some months back - the mighty Bitstream back for
another round of impossibly heavy, dark, intricate, impeccably produced
futuristic electro. Andrea Parker has chosen well - these 4 tracks
brilliantly identifying why Steve and Dave Conner are still delivering
the most terrifying electro of their generation - starting with the
demented beat-spasm of the opening 'Anno Domini' - it really is a shame
for so many of their conremporaries who sound so thin when judged
alongside the benchmark low-end modulations and crisp snaps found here.
'Astro Glide' is my personal favourite - beautifully spacious and
reflective, the melody wins out over the clutter with a moving series of
pinprick progressions and chord changes to die for. 'Step Retracing' on
the flip is classic Bitstream - turntablist jerks lodged between a
cascade of deep, squashed beats the likes of which you wouldn't have
heard since the last time these guys cut their wares to wax.
'Streamlining' ends the twelve with a minimal coda that again pushes the
envelope - complex structures seemingly constructed out of padded bass
tones and a sparse, insistant percussion flip. How good??? - boomkat.com
