Anisha Nicole, born and raised in San Diego, California, had quite the debut for
a star on the rise. A 17 year-old with a single entering the R&B Hot Singles
Chart at #5 was an astounding accomplishment. By 18, her single "No Means No"
had climbed all the way to #3. Being the daughter of famed major leaguer Tony
Gwynn, the San Diego Padres' 20-year career veteran makes her no stranger to
success. Despite the overwhelming influence of her father's fame and celebrity
by association, Anisha has developed her own talent and strong sense of self.
Always singing around the house, Anisha, as an eight year-old, was quenching her
musical thirst listening to the Clark Sisters, other gospel luminaries, and as
she grew older, listened to such R&B/Pop acts as Janet Jackson, SWV, and 702.
She loves the emotional experience of song and how people relate to that same
spirit. Taking her cue from those influences, that love for singing led her to
join flame, a short-lived group based in San Diego. When they disbanded, Anisha
decided to pursue a career on her own.
Having recently wrapped up her debut album with veteran producer LT Hutton, and
having guest appearances with rap stars like Da Brat, the next single, "Let's
Go," will hopefully create entrance into the charts with as much intensity as
her debut. Without compromising originality, Anisha embraces a style
emcompassing the musical influences of contemporaries such as Destiny's Child,
Monica, and Brandy. Her vocals are rhythmic with a reflection of a variety of
cultures combined to present such subjects as love, friendship, and
independence. Ever spicing up the moods with slow grooves and percolating party
jams.
Anisha has not only topped the charts, but also performed for well known acts
such as Simply Red. She's performed for hundreds of teen fans at Club Sea
World, and has sung the national anthem at the San Diego Olympics, as well as
several San Diego Padres' home games, including the final game at Qualcomm
Stadium. Anisha has also made numerous television appearances on local network
talk shows and both national and international programs like 'Style VIP' on E!
and 'Your Big Break' on the Oxygen Channel airing April 2004.
Anisha's career is a total family affair. Her mother, Alicia Gwynn, formed the
label Base Hit Records, and her Uncle Clarence and Aunt Vivian lend their voices
for background vocals. Alicia, not a stranger to the music industry, formerly
owned and operated a record label and studio in Indianapolis, and has guided the
careers of several acts there and in San Diego.
This 18 year-old college freshman believes in education and still tackles
serious issues many young women are dealing with today. She wants to make a
difference with songs that truly express what she wants to share with other
teenagers, as well as the world.
