███▓  On Degancios Suros, Pogrom takes steady aim at what he clearly sees  ▓███
███▓  as a weakening of Europe (though how he defines that is not clear)   ▓███
███▓  by both modern liberal thought and by Muslim immigration. From the   ▓███
███▓  nicely designed cover art depicting selected European countries on   ▓███
███▓  the bordered map of a veiled womanÆs body (a specially designed      ▓███
███▓  piece from artist Gintare K. Narga), to the direct and polemic       ▓███
███▓  track titles (in UrloÆs Lithuanian mother-tongue with English        ▓███
███▓  translations), this is indeed a furious commentary.                  ▓███
███▓                                                                       ▓███
███▓  Could it be this content that was behind the popularity of the       ▓███
███▓  original tape? Perhaps. IÆm sure there were plenty of listeners      ▓███
███▓  with sympathetic sentiments, but a good deal more who were just      ▓███
███▓  seeking a naughty thrill. And of course, there are those who just    ▓███
███▓  recognise the quality of PogromÆs work. Regardless of your           ▓███
███▓  opinions, this is an excellent album that ticks all the right        ▓███
███▓  boxes.                                                               ▓███

███▓  Opener æBarbarai IÜ Dykumu (Savages from Desert)Æ may be a little    ▓███
███▓  gratuitous on its ironic use of Islamic prayer or devotional song    ▓███
███▓  samples, but its subtle drone and sparse vocals show a patient and   ▓███
███▓  considered approach. æPakantumo Debesys, Pakibe VirÜ Europos         ▓███
███▓  (Clouds of Tolerance, Hanging Over Europe)Æ is where things really   ▓███
███▓  start to hit the mark: the track is completely composed around       ▓███
███▓  woozy synth (Korg MS?) and filthy rumble. You really canÆt go wrong  ▓███
███▓  with that approach.                                                  ▓███

███▓  Dare I say it, thereÆs also a ôFinnish P.E.ö sound to a couple of    ▓███
███▓  the tracks here: dirty, minimal synth, gruff vocals, and plenty of   ▓███
███▓  unprocessed amp feedback. These are the tracks that shine            ▓███
███▓  brightest: youÆll need to pick the dirt from under your fingernails  ▓███
███▓  after listening to æTrys Ginklai (Three Weapons)Æ, æSumindyti        ▓███
███▓  Äiedai (Trampled Flowers)Æ, and æPurvini Batai Palei Duris (Dirty    ▓███
███▓  Boots by the Door)Æ.                                                 ▓███

███▓  Regardless of your position, itÆs always invigorating to hear noise  ▓███
███▓  with content delivered passionately, with conviction, and with no    ▓███
███▓  regard for the moralising majority. But without the sounds to back   ▓███
███▓  it up, it would just be an impotent scream. Thankfully, Pogrom has   ▓███
███▓  delivered both admirably with Degancios Suros.                       ▓███
