After being a key member of the legendary
German cult electronic group, Tangerine
Dream, for more than 15 years, Jerome Froese,
is finally releasing his first-ever solo
album onto the world. Neptunes combines all
the classic ingredients he brought to TD┤s
sound in the past decades with a lot of new
and very diverse influences. For those well
acquainted with his history, it might not
come as a big surprise that a big part of the
sound is dominated by Jerome┤s guitar work.
After all, it was also a guitar solo that
started his career with his main occupation,
Tangerine Dream. On ôNeptunesö, atmospheric
guitar walls meet melodic solos and
crystalline acoustic pickings on a
distinctive electronic foundation.
While Froese┤s first solo output will easily
appeal to the fans of Tangerine Dream, it
breaks out of the musical boundaries that
make up the group┤s trademark sound to create
an open-minded and eclectic musical journey.
The album┤s tracks unfold an otherworldly
quality without ever crossing the thin line
to the esoteric or profane. ôNeptunesö
provides a trip in the best sense of the
word, far away from the pipe dreams of the
hippie community û soundscapes with a capital
ôsö. A true piece of art is not easily
pigeonholed û and Froese┤s music avoids any
distinct categorization.
It is both a modern and timeless work of
music and provides the living proof of Jerome
Froese┤s excellent musical craftsmanship.
After such an impressive debut, there is
little doubt that we will hear a lot more
from this exciting artist outside of his work
with the group.
