Release Notes:
Lambchop teams with Nashville electronica duo Hands Off Cuba on the
appropriately named EP "CoLAB," due Oct. 11 via Merge. The project finds
the two acts enmeshed in each other's music; opener "Prepared" was
penned by Lambchop leader Kurt Wagner but sports an arrangement created
in tandem with Hands Off Cuba's Ryan Norris and Scott Martin.
On "Blur" and "Gus," Hands Off Cuba encircles Wagner compositions with
skipping electronic drums, headphone-filling sound effects, mournful
strings and psychedelic production techniques. On "Women," Wagner's
vocals are sliced and diced atop sparse computerized rhythms and far-off
piano melodies.
Although Merge says there are no plans to reproduce "CoLAB" material
live, Lambchop will regroup for two upcoming shows: Oct. 14 at New
York's Bowery Ballroom and the following evening in North Adams, Mass.
