Release Notes:

To symplify, the term Banda usually designates
various populations living in the centre and the
east of the Central African Republic. In fact,
these populations are quite diverse if one judges,
notably, from their music. Five peoples of the
Banda group are represented here: the Broto, the
DakΓ, the Mbi, the Ndokpa, the Linda.
Many of the recording on this CD were released in
1963, then constituting the very first available
examples of the music of the Banda populations. The
astonishing polyphony of the ongo horns, the
lingassio xylophones and the way they are made to
"talk" while they produce music, the songs to
accompany work or the collecting of termites
exhaustively were hailed by the First World
Festival of Negro Art (Dakar, 1966), winning the
"Premier Grand Prix du Disque". Here they are
presented in ┤ more complete form, with additions
and a rejuvenating digital sound.

1. Orchestra of Ongo Horns (Broto)
2. Dambou Ceremonial Music (Dakpa)
3. Song and Bowed Harp (Mbi)
4. Instrumental Language (Ndokpa)
5. MbalΘ Ceremonial Music (Ndokpa)
6. Instrumental Ensemble for the MbalΘ (Ndokpa)
7. Logger's Song (Dakpa)
8. Song and Pestle (Dakpa)
9. Song for attracting termites (Dakpa)
10. To encourage the farmers (Dakpa)
11. Music for the Yamba (Linda)
12. MbakΘ Music and Dance (Linda)
