| Nortec Collective is not a thing or a genre or a group or a band, |
| but an entire electronic aesthetic. Nortec stands for |
| norteno-techno, the convergence of high-tech and low-tech, of |
| North and South, of all things techno-- the sequenced breakbeats |
| and sound patterns, the raves, the recombinant technology, sample |
| cut-ups - with all things norteno, all the things that are a part |
| of the rural and urban, cowboy hat and tasseled-sleeve world of |
| Northwestern Mexico. But especially the music, the norteno, |
| ranchera, and banda sinaloense, three of Mexico's most |
| traditional, most important, and most commercially popular musical |
| styles (all Mexicanized hybrids of polka and waltz music brought |
| to Mexico by German farmers), best known for their button |
| accordions, acoustic bass, brassy trumpets and trombones, big |
| honking tubas, big bass drum booms, and firecracker snare rolls |
| that were doing BPM speed rushes before drum n' bass knew how to |
| lace its running shoes. |

| Fussible (Pepe Mogt): |
| |
| Started his career back in 1991 with an industrial oriented band |
| called Artefakto, with 3 albums printed in mexico and germany(zoth |
| Ommog), the first of which, "Des-construccion," featured a |
| collaboration with Sascha Konietzko of KMFDM. |
| |
| Fussible was born in 1997. The following year the album "Fono" was |
| released, a collection of highly proficient techno and breakbeat |
| influenced tracks with but saddled with such unfortunate titles as |
| "Trippy Boy" and "Montego Bay Breaks". While the album was well |
| received in electronic music circles in Mexico, and even received |
| some airplay, fussible felt something was lacking. |
| |
| After the release of "Fono", fussible were simply following |
| outside trends and wanted to figure out how to develop a |
| distintive sound that would set them apart from their European and |
| American counterparts. This sound would turn out to be Nortec , a |
| conjunction of Norte±o(popular folk music in Tijuana) and Techno, |
| a style they would help create , as well as share with a group of |
| likeminded musicians that would eventually turn into the Nortec |
| Collective. Fussible has released material with the Palm (Tijuana |
| Sessions vol 1), Sonic 360 and Nettwerk labels, and has also done |
| remixes and colaborations for Ennio Morricone for a Compost |
| Records, 1 Giant Leap, Alan Parsons, David J (bauhaus) and |
| Mambotur among others. |

| Bostich (Ramon Amezcua): |
| |
| Ramon Amezcua began working as Bostich in 1988, releasing 2 albums |
| of ambient techno electronica and participating in many music |
| festivals and raves at that time, while continuing to work in his |
| practice as a dentist in Tijuana. At the end of 1999, his friend |
| Pepe Mogt (of Fussible), with whom he had collaborated on a |
| project called Monnithor, invited him to participate in a |
| experiment with the intention of creating a new musical style that |
| would sound unmistakably like Tijuana. He began to work with |
| norte±o and tambora instrumentation and rhythms and created |
| "Polaris", an aggressively danceable track that fully represented |
| the then newly created Nortec sound. Besides touring the world and |
| providing quality dentistry, Ramon continues work on his first all |
| Nortec-style Bostich album, as well as doing an alternate project |
| called Point Loma. |
