Rainy City Music was formed in Manchester during the summer of 1996
by brothers Irfan & Iftikhar Hussain and Cyril Lyons ,Brazilian
guitarist Franco Ze joined a little later and this made up the core
personnel of the label. The label was setup primarily to release
quality soulful dance music tracks covering all types of black dance
music. They also formed sister label Testing The Water in 1998 to
promote leftfield dance music.
The A&R and executive production is handled by the above founding
members who also co-create & write the music with a number of DJ's,
musicians and producers within the Rainy City of Manchester. The
label has six artists/producers and monikers who are namely, City
People", "Blast From The Past", "The Elastic Band", "Galera",
electronic outfit "The Tellurians" and new artists "La Gente Urbana",
each have their own strong and distinctive feel, based heavily upon a
rich understanding of rhythm and melody allied with a deep knowledge
of the history of dance music.
City People's sound encompasses all blends of urban dance music
Blast From The Past concentrate on their love of disco music
The Elastic Band bring forth soul jazz-funk and perform live
Galera are the label's Brazilian group
The Tellurians are a quirky electronic music outfit
La Gente Urbana create fusions of Latin music
