great moody 7" from the scene friendly named band
iLiKETRAiNS ;)
Two fantastically dark, dramatic songs from Leeds
band iLiKETRAiNS, both of which are tales of unlikely
subject matter: "A Rook House For Bobby" chronicles
the story of former chess grandmaster Bobby Fischer,
who, after becoming world champion in 1972, began to
behave erratically, joining an apocalyptic cult and
having all his fillings removed due to fears that
they could be used to influence his thinking. He did
not play another competitive game until 1992 when he
took part in a rematch in Yugoslavia, resulting in
the US government issuing a warrant for his arrest as
United Nations sanctions forbade Americans from doing
business in the country. Fischer was finally arrested
and imprisoned in Japan in 2004. Aged 19, Fischer had
told a reporter that he dreamed of living in a house
"shaped exactly like a rook", but he now lives in
exile in Iceland. "The Beeching Report" is a protest
song, albeit one that's 42 years too late, sung from
the point of view of aggrieved workers telling Dr
Beeching their thoughts on his plans. Musically think
Joy Division mixed with Sigur Ros and Godspeed,
intense and atmospheric. -piccadilly
