Malcolm Bauld is a singer/songwriter based in Montreal, Canada. After five years
of writing, recording and touring with indiepunk band The Frenetics, Malcolm has
begun documenting solo material for guitar and voice. Born in Edinburgh
Scotland, Malcolm emigrated to Canada with his family in 1980 and spent the next
twelve years inVictoria, British Columbia. In addition to starting his musical
education on piano at an early age, he was often surroundedby traditional and
folk music (both his father and uncle sang folk tunes) . In his teens, Malcolm
was exposed to BC?s surprisingly vibrant punk scene (local bands like No Means
No, DOA, and SNFU played frequently on the island, as wellas touring bands from
West Coast USA like Green Day, Victim?s Family, etc.) which would continue to
influence and inspirehim for many years to come. Malcolm?s tastes evolved
throughout his twenties, taking up guitar for the first time and listening to a
steady stream of artists like The Clash, Fugazi, Billy Bragg, Elvis Costello,
Jawbreaker, Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash and The Pogues.A chance visit to
Montreal in 1995 certainly made an impression on Malcolm as he has resided there
ever since, releasingthree records and partaking in multiple tours across
Canada, the U.S. and Europe with The Frenetics.In 2004, Malcolm has begun to
perform solo shows in Montreal to enthusiastic response, returning to the sounds
of the acoustic guitar and simple melodies so present in his upbringing (with a
little harmonica too).
