▀▀▀ ▀▀▀
instead of working as the chef at his family's
hotel in tyrol as originally planned, hubert
mauracher became a drummer in a rock band.
influenced by international downtempo greats, he
soon discovered his new love: the production of
electronic music. a bit unusual for someone who
grew up in a folk music paradise such as tyrol.
mauracher's musical research led him, much to the
consternation of his family, to move to vienna
where he lived in a communal flat with other
musicians, and where he attempted to launch his
musical career. he got by with odd jobs and the
occasional musical gig until 2001 when he
encountered the people at the electronic music
label fabrique records. maurachers first song for
fabrique, "meilenstein", which appeared on the
"superfabrique"-compilation, soon became an airplay
hit and was the most-played austrian track for 2002
on the nationwide alternative station fm4. the 12"
maxi-debut "meilenstein", which has been released
in early 2003, sold out in a few weeks and landed
on radio playlists in germany, the uk, portugal,
greece, the usa, russia and japan. the track was
even used for a large adverstising campaign (casali
chocolate bananas) and was licensed for various
international compilations.
in may of 2003, hubert mauracher (with band)
appeared as a live act for the first time under the
label mauracher. alongside international giants
such as ltj bukem, mc conrad, and andrea parker, he
appeared at the electronic festival "spring three"
in front of 1,500 people in the sold-out graz
cathedral where he proved himself as an exciting
live act.
remixes from british acts such as don air (part of
stereo mc's hood), bonobo (ninja tune) or dr.
rubberfunk drive home the fact that hubert
mauracher was no longer strictly an austrian
phenomenon. proof of this came with airplay of 12ôs
"noonee", "zombielove" and "waiting" on
broadcasters such as bbc radio1, radio magnetic,
xfm london, and across the atlantic to college
radio stations in the usa.
the highlight of late 2003 was the release of his
jazzy-electronic debut album "29 degrees" which
drew national and international praise for a debut
work. instead of pursuing this path, in 2004 hubert
mauracher returned to his musical roots with a
brandnew band (feat. frenk lebel and maja racki)
focusing on song structure and acoustics. the
result of this can be heard on his second album
"kissing my grandma" due to be released in october
2005. initial reactions indicate that hubert
mauracher's days as a musical tip for a small
circle of insiders are numbered.
watch out for livedates and an upcoming tour
together with the sofa surfers (klein).
mauracher & band live:
known for creating a buzz with his energetic live
shows at festivals and clubs mauracher presents his
live outfit consisting of // hubert mauracher,
electronics & laptop & percussions // maja racki,
vocals // frenk lebel, vocals & guitars // sasa
nikolic, drums // martin weissmayr, bass // live
visuals by mario "metchi" waldhuber.
as always, buy the music you enjoy. cheers.
