██▓▓ It all started back in the Spring of 1986, ██▓▓
██▓▓ when a poorly-dubbed hotmix tape recorded ██▓▓
██▓▓ from the airwaves of Chicago's WKKC 89.3FM ██▓▓
██▓▓ (Kennedy-King College) fell into his hands. ██▓▓
██▓▓ His cousin had provided him with a new kind ██▓▓
██▓▓ of music that would change his life forever. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ You see, even though House Music was already ██▓▓
██▓▓ evolving in the early 80's in the culture ██▓▓
██▓▓ rich pockets of Chicago, it had not made its ██▓▓
██▓▓ presence felt in the Delta farmlands of ██▓▓
██▓▓ Mississippi quite yet. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ It was in that same spring down in ██▓▓
██▓▓ Greenwood, MS, that Chris would be baptized ██▓▓
██▓▓ into the houseworld as a new disciple of ██▓▓
██▓▓ underground ambience. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ Even though he'd reacted badly to house ██▓▓
██▓▓ music at first, Chris was granted a second ██▓▓
██▓▓ chance. He began devouring the new house ██▓▓
██▓▓ ambrosia with uncontrollable addiction. ██▓▓
██▓▓ Chris began collecting a wide variety of ██▓▓
██▓▓ housemix tapes from all over the world, ██▓▓
██▓▓ which would ultimately inspire him to create ██▓▓
██▓▓ The Deephouse Projekt in 1990. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ The Deephouse Projekt is Chris' ongoing ██▓▓
██▓▓ search to understand the roots of house ██▓▓
██▓▓ music, and its perpetual migrations. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ Under this projekt, he began discoveringvia ██▓▓
██▓▓ phone and the Internet many credible sources ██▓▓
██▓▓ who would teach him about house music's ██▓▓
██▓▓ controversial history. This includes ██▓▓
██▓▓ learning from people who were present at the ██▓▓
██▓▓ original Warehouse and Bismark clubs, among ██▓▓
██▓▓ other landmark night spots in Chicago. He ██▓▓
██▓▓ was inspired enough in 1992 to pack his bags ██▓▓
██▓▓ and move to Chicago to continue the project. ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ Chris felt that it was time to pursue ██▓▓
██▓▓ another of his dreams (after receiving his ██▓▓
██▓▓ B. A. in Communication from Mississippi ██▓▓
██▓▓ State University in 1992). ██▓▓
██▓▓ ██▓▓
██▓▓ He'd never been to Chicago before, but ██▓▓
██▓▓ instinctually felt that it was destiny to ██▓▓
██▓▓ continue his work there. He quickly learned ██▓▓
██▓▓ that the Chicago house scene was ██▓▓
██▓▓ contaminated with politics and greed, but ██▓▓
██▓▓ refused to get involved in the politics and ██▓▓
██▓▓ fraternization. Instead he allowed an ██▓▓
██▓▓ ancient house spirit to be resurrected ██▓▓
██▓▓ though his music. It is this very spirit ██▓▓
██▓▓ that helps him and others who are sincerely ██▓▓
██▓▓ devoted to continue the upliftment and ██▓▓
██▓▓ exploration of our unique music form. ██▓▓
