Back in 1999 Richard Charter released
'Postfabricated' following a year long recording
process which saw his original mini-disc musings
mastered at a proper studio; a process which led
to a severe level of compression. When Chartier
heard this obvious discrepancy in sound from what
he'd originally laid down, he set about
reconstructing the work digitally by utilizing all
of the original components and rerecording large
tracts of the material; 'Re'Post'Postfabricated'
being the lexically lumpy result. Phew! History
class dismissed. So what does it sound like?
Microsound to the max, 'Re'Post'Postfabricated' is
full of glitchy full stops and digital hiccups,
resulting in a bass-thin sound which delights in
the sheer minimalism of the venture. The second
disc features reworkings from the likes of Matmos,
Alva Noto, Frank Bretschneider, Coh, Steve Roden
and many others. Given the original sound-files to
play with as they saw fit, the results are
clinically fine-tuned, if not a little more deeply
textured than Charter's own work. Gorgeous
customised raster-style sleeve and available in
limited supply only - highly recommended!
