Secret stealth are Jim Baron (Crazy Penis) and Bob Sadler (Fug), both well known
for their work on nuphonic, paper recordings, tummytouch, session recordings and
guidance amongst others, along with a list of remix credits as long as a
toddlers arm.
æWith a name like Secret Stealth and a title called æSSSSHHH!Æ you could be led
into thinking that Crazy PenisÆs Jim Baron and FugÆs Bob Sadler are on a covert
operation not meant for public knowledge, but with beats as good as this
æSSSHHHH!Æ is about to become as secret as the fact that the Tooth Fairy doesnÆt
exist. Sorry if IÆve burst a few bubbles there, but itÆs trueà.get used to it.
And while youÆre at it, check out Secret StealthÆs debut opus û a beautiful
bundle of funk drenched organic melodies, thisÆll sooth anyoneÆs soul, even if
it didnÆt need soothing in the first place. Take the opener æStealth zÆ,
igniting with a classic wha-wah guitar riff, it builds both musically and
percussively into a horn-organ ûdrenched number thatÆll get you hooked from the
off. Throughout the ride weÆre taken through many levels of funk, soul and house
with plenty of live instruments, lush vocals and subtle electronic touches
(except the deep creeper æStealth 1Æ, which is blatantly electronic, but itÆs a
cracker all the same). I hate to be smug, but the advanced copy of this has been
the soundtrack to my summer. But donÆt worry, this bad boy will be around for
many summers yet, and thatÆs no secret!Æ û IDJ ALBUM OF THE MONTH
They both now reside on Nottingham`s much-admired Shiva Records, which is being
hailed as the hottest new imprint since Naked Music by those in the know, and it
is from the foundations of Shiva Records that Bocajito has arisen, featuring new
combinations of Shiva`s most loved bands.
Born out of one too many beers in the local, the two decided their fridays would
be more enjoyable if they left behind their serious, pressure-filled day jobs to
make some fun- funk music together. They dusted off the sampler, started
listening to old acid-house records, left their prejudices at the door and this
is the result - dance music which borrows from the past but doesn`t get bogged
down in the world of four to the floor.
Their debut album "Ssshhh!" has already been causing something of a stir on CDR,
packed as it is with sweet melodies, funky riffs and a bagful of top-notch vocal
performances from a posse of invited guests. Tracks like the warm, welcoming
opener `Stealth 2`, the self-explanatory `Make Love!` and the floorfilling
`Can`t Get Away from You` all invite the listener in with their funk-fuelled
intentions: its an album that works as a reaction against the uptight, po-faced
nature of too many longplayers - instead it swings through genres and moods and
grooves with an easy pace and a smile on its face.
So spread the word: SecretStealth aren`t going to be a secret much longer.
