│ Gitbox! started on a porch, it┤s true. Two guys singing and playing │░
│ traditional music. That┤s some years ago now. The band no longer │░
│ consists of two guys. People came and went. What remained was a │░
│ steady flow of songs that are always, in some way, traditional. And │░
│ how could they not be? Between 1994 and now they┤ve released four │░
│ full length albums and a rare 10 inch dedicated to the town of Gary, │░
│ Indiana. They┤ve toured all over Europe and the U.S and have been │░
│ invited to play on festivals such as Lowlands and Crossing Borders. │░
│ Also they are happy to have collaborated with musicians such as │░
│ Carol van Dijk, Pascal Deweze, Mauro Pawlovski, Allan Muller and │░
│ Paul van Stiphout. │░
│ │░
│ Most of the songs they┤ve written have a verse and a chorus. Nothing │░
│ new there. Sometimes they┤re quiet, inward looking, sounding almost │░
│ like you opened someone┤s personal mail, and it contains a poem you │░
│ might or might not understand. But there┤s one line in there that │░
│ holds your attention. Sometimes they are loud and keep getting │░
│ louder. Sometimes they┤re abstract, a little weird, and yet they┤re │░
│ never more then two steps away from She loves you yeah, yeah, yeah. │░
│ The new album is called: ``Songs for Shiftless Days``. It was │░
│ recorded over a period of several months with renowned producer John │░
│ Morand firmly in control. The majority of these songs were layed │░
│ down in one take with very few embelishments. Most of the bass and │░
│ keyboard parts were played by Martijn Blankestijn who also plays in │░
│ Bettie Serveert. Some parts were conceived and performed by Camille │░
│ Courbois. If you┤ve never heared Gitbox! in real live then this │░
│ record will give you a taste. It┤s out now on the excellent LVR │░
