Uglied compiles two American Tapes cassettes (Dead Hills and
Black Rat Floods)issued in absurdly limited editions of 15. The
official soundtrack to the imminent toymaker revolt.
Great dorky cover masks one of Wolf Eyes most strung out trio
sides, a compilation of two cassettes/six tracks originally
released on American Tapes: Dead Hills and Black Rat Floods,
both recorded January 2002. Swarms of electronics meet
pulverising percussion and ecstatically primitive drones,
clearing the kind of headspace thatÆs somewhere between the
first New Blockaders LP, some kind of deep-south beer ritual
and the primitive anti-art splurge of the Los Angeles Free
Music Society. Listening to this again, it's hard to believe
these guys ever ended up on Sub Pop. Fucking great.
