Here's what The Wire said about this album:
DJ /rupture's original breakthrough, 2001's prescient Gold Teeth Thief,
was the most accurate soundtrack to the devastation and confusion of the
11 September attacks, one which succeeded in adroitly embracing the full
global picture at a time when all eyes were on the USA. Eclipsing the
excellent Minesweeper Suite, Low Income Tomorrow/and was originally
commissioned by the highly regarded Lemon-Red Weblog. This signals the
continuing impact of blogs, as well as accounting for the disc's
loose-limbed frenzy. It's I as if, without the pressure of delivering a
CD proper, DJ/ rupture has produced something personal and adventurous.
Included here, among e other improbabilities, is a Tracy Chapman remix.
Picking highlights is almost crass, so intermeshed and multi-tiered is
the mix. With n DJ /rupture opting for Grime producer Dexplicit's il
remix of MIA's "Pull Up The People" above the I original mix, the
provenance of his tunes is confusing. Bong-Ra's "Old Skool Armageddon"
is revisionist ragga-Jungle, with hi-jacked dancehall samples spooled
over skidding Amen breaks. The signal is scrambled again by DJ /rupture
overlaying Junior Byles's roots classic "Fade Away". This weft is
self-reflexive. Highlighting a sense of existential rootlessness in the
post-colonial era, it is the collection's meta-philosophical pOint. The
CD credits somewhat tellingly list Low Income Tomorrow/and's 'main
ingredients', for to breakdown its individual components would
presumably take too long. These include the fluid nimble-toed raps of
David Banner's "Crank It Up", the still glowing solder on the breaks of
Krumble's "Backward Country Boy Explosion", Siula's satisfyingly coarse
rasp, the unfailingly enervating gunshots. It's particularly heartening
to see DJ /rupture embrace London's Grime, marking him as the single
globetrotting internationalist DJ to be alert to its undisputed power.
The underrated East Connection's "We're Ready" and Jammer cohort Lewi
White's" 1 & All" feature in Low Income Tomorrow/and. The 'CD plus'
format allows D /rupture to sneak in a set he turned in for Hamburg's
BTTB FM. Even heavier on Grime, it also takes in his usual coordinates
of Crunk, dancehall, the music of the , North African Muslim continuum
and Squatcore
