▓████▓▌ A very, very interesting CD this one; as itÆs ▓▌
▓████▓▌ utterly unlike any Dutch release IÆve heard. It is ▓▌
▓████▓▌ in no way the formulaic pop one associates with the ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Dutch music scene at present. The opening track of ▓▌
▓████▓▌ this EP Hitting the Ground opens with the sound of ▓▌
▓████▓▌ a tube train coming to a stop in a station. The ▓▌
▓████▓▌ track immediately kicks off into a sub-glitter ▓▌
▓████▓▌ stomp with muted vocals very reminiscent of Pere ▓▌
▓████▓▌ UbuÆs classic Final Solution single. ôI donÆ wannaö ▓▌
▓████▓▌ is an opening phrase that crops up with heartening ▓▌
▓████▓▌ regulaurity this song; itÆs gloriously surly, very ▓▌
▓████▓▌ much into Iggy and all things Stoogy and I am very ▓▌
▓████▓▌ happy about that. Light Years in Vain is softer but ▓▌
▓████▓▌ no less surly in approach. It has a fabulous ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Velvets, or late era Pixies sensibility; the ▓▌
▓████▓▌ ticking drum machine makes me think of the Bunnymen ▓▌
▓████▓▌ too. It dissolves into waspish guitar feedback by ▓▌
▓████▓▌ the end. A classic. Stand Back could be off a late ▓▌
▓████▓▌ Mary Chain release; it growls along in a monolithic ▓▌
▓████▓▌ way, giving out surly glances ats it strolls down ▓▌
▓████▓▌ the street. Absurdly simple and basic in its ▓▌
▓████▓▌ creation, it is absolutely fucking briliant. ▓▌

▓████▓▌ Excelsior, from 1996 to 2004. ▓▌
