downsall plastics (the name is an anagram of lowlands) is a label
created for the more danceable stuff with a hard edge (david shea
and dj grazhoppa, little a∩da,...), recently concentrating on the
series of belgique musique that gives young belgian dance talent
the opportunity to reach an international audience (buscemi,
kretek, dubtales, pril, eavesdropper, briskey...)
some history :
throughout the nineties dance music became more and more
interesting, while uk and usa were no longer the only trendsetting
countries in this field. in the whole european continent loads of
talent came up, able to compete with the best work in this style
of music. so that 's where downsall plastics came in the picture.
downsall plastics released dj vadim 's little a∩da project, before
he signed to ninja tune and in a time when trip hop was just being
invented. downsall also made american sample wizzard david shea
and belgium 's hip hop icon number one dj grazzhoppa work
together. this cooperation resulted in the widely appreciated cd
'down river up stream'. from that moment downsall plastics never
ceased to be ahead of exciting musical developments and has
substantially grown over the years.
at the moment downsall is the home to a flourishing dance scene in
belgium, including promising acts like buscemi, kretek and
dubtales, briskey.
in belgium the label 's artists are widely known and appreciated
and now they 're starting to convince internationally as well.
tracks of downsall artists are regularly asked for compilations
abroad, especially in uk, japan and in the usa. the first buscemi
album was licensed in japan. and the future looks bright: in the
fall a downsall compilation with exclusive tracks from all the
label 's artists will be released, accompanied by a special
downsall package that will be touring in europe.
the label 's manager tom de weerdt is known as dj low and divides
his time between creating music in different projects, deejaying
and running the label.
we were very sorry to hear that the creator of pippi langstrum,
astrid lindgren, has passed away this week at the age of 94, but
there is one thing for sure: pipi rules 4 ever! this one comes
from igor mignor and is a drum'n'bass hit dedicated to pipi
longstockings. this is a still available strictly limited 10inch
as for its obvious samples.
