█ For the most part, Snake Eyes consists of █
█ orchestral music for the film composed by Ryuichi █
█ Sakamoto, who delivers a satisfactory though █
█ typical orchestral score, devoid of any of the █
█ composer's Asian music elements he has used in █
█ other scores (such as The Last Emperor). Some of █
█ the selections, such as the title cut, are █
█ evocative, but too many others suffer from a █
█ common malady to soundtracks-without the visuals, █
█ they are simply not compelling. Certainly, █
█ Sakamoto's skill in accompanying the movie are █
█ undeniable, but in the rank of film scores, this █
█ is not really his best work. As an added bonus, █
█ two pop songs are tacked on to the end-Meredith █
█ Brooks' "Sin City" (which sounds like nothing so █
█ much as a dull outtake) and LaKiesha Berri's R&B █
█ track "The Freaky Things", which is workmanlike. █
█ Without much truly arresting music here, Snake █
█ Eyes is really for fans of the film, or collectors █
█ of the artists involved. ~ Victor W. Valdivia, All █
