│║ Guitarist Mark Reale and the Riot squad ║ │
│║ delivered another inspired album with Irishmore, ║ │
│║ a twelve song concept recording. The disc from ║ │
│║ 1998 drips of proud Celtic rock influences, ║ │
│║ which immediately bring Thin Lizzy and Gary ║ │
│║ Moore to the front. "Watching the Signs" carries ║ │
│║ the hallmark Lizzy sound. The late, great Philip ║ │
│║ Paris Lynott, nods with approval from the ║ │
│║ heavens high above. ║ │

│║ During the great famine in Ireland (1845-1850) ║ │
│║ many people emigrated to America, as well as ║ │
│║ parts of Great Britain. For some, there was no ║ │
│║ choice, as they were forced to leave due to ║ │
│║ eviction and unemployment. The strained ║ │
│║ situation became so brutal, that fear of ║ │
│║ starvation caused wide spread panic and ║ │
│║ propelled people to ports in an effort to escape ║ │
│║ the quickly deteriorating conditions. Many even ║ │
│║ traveled during the harsh winter months, risking ║ │
│║ their lives in violet storms. Among the places ║ │
│║ hardest hit by the famine were the Western ║ │
│║ counties of Ireland. ║ │
│║ ║ │
│║ The sobering story is conveyed via Irishmore ║ │
│║ (aka "Forsaken Heart"), which opens with the ║ │
│║ short "Black Water" instrumental. A young boy ║ │
│║ who encounters numerous hardships in his journey ║ │
│║ during this lean time is the catalyst for the ║ │
│║ album theme. Unrelenting in his quest for a ║ │
│║ better life, his heart is full of sorrow as he ║ │
│║ waits patiently for his true love at the hills ║ │
│║ of Galway. ║ │

│║ backdrop for the album that once again showcases ║ │
│║ the under-rated Riot delivering tight ║ │
│║ arrangements and deft musicianship. The ║ │
│║ galloping "Kings Are Falling" hits hard, another ║ │
│║ in along line of driving Riot rockers, while the ║ │
│║ group counter the heaviness with moody tracks ║ │
│║ that convey the mood of the era. Mike DiMeo's ║ │
│║ vocals accent the recording, while Reale and ║ │
│║ Mike Flyntz shine on with their searing six ║ │
