the nigerian born percussionist lekan babalola, already known
through his musical associations with fela kuti and roy ayers is
releasing his fourth single "kabioye" through the fledging soho
imprint 51 lex records.,
"kabioye" is a yoruba word meaning "to give honour" honour being
exactly what lekan's new blazing 12" is all about. a fitting
tribute to the undisputed king of afrobeat, fela anikulapo-kuti.
the remix duies on this 12" package are masterfully handled by two
of westlondon'd finest producer's.
first up is mark de clive-lowe, delivering a bumping broken afro
work-out built around a stunning key composition with the
sensitivity and finesse he is increasingly renowned for. on the
flip, phil asher serves up a remix under his "restless soul"
moniker that is aiming straight at dance floors across the world
with it's heavy feel of a 70's boogie bass line, combined
with a 4/4 beat.
