Take hip hop, R&B and soul, infuse it with '70s pop and guitar rock, and you
have the defining, distinctive sound of The Spectaculars. But the
Minneapolis-based foursome isn't just blending the genres for experimentation's
sake. According to Joel Saint John, co-founder/keyboardist, it's because the
group is selfish. "We set out to do this album with only ourselves and our
interests in mind. We took our stories, and laid them down in the flavors of our
group's members. Different genres may take the lead from track to track, but
each one comes from the same spot - us."
