Beats and jazzy chords graced with an electronic touch. This is the
sound of Iony. Duo Magnus Boqvist (drums/electronics) and Gustaf
Karlof (Rhodes/sequencers), hailing from Gothenburg, merged their
creative minds in 2001, using their skills to together fashion music.
The result: some call it nujazz, some call it broken beat. ∩ony
prefer not to call it anything. Aspiring to push the boundaries and
escape categorization, Magnus and Gustaf embrace inspiration, turning
it into improvisation. "Sometimes it starts with me playing a few
chords, then Magnus joins in, or the other way around. We just keep
going until we hear something we think is great. Then we repeat,
sample, and make a song out of it. A song is about two or three
parts." says Gustaf.
With a studio always rigged with microphones to pick up that vibe,
that melody, which makes a song that good, Iony works by sampling
themselves, picking out the creme de la creme of their musical flow,
taking whoever listens on a trek through previously uncharted
soundscapes. Keeping it clean, simple and novel, Iony bring tunes
rooted in dance music based on beats. Whether it be in dimly lit
venues or during a jam session in the studio, the duo never know
where the final destination will be. After critically acclaimed
appearances on compilations such as Jazzflora and Jazzflora 2, Iony
now present their debut ep Yes, ready for lounges, venues and
tuned-in ears world wide.
