Quatre figures majeures de lÆhistoire du jazz
franτais ont imaginΘ le troisiΦme chapitre dÆune
aventure entamΘe voilα dix ans.
En 1990, Guy Maurette, crΘateur de "Jazz sous les
manguiers", devenu "la semaine du jazz α
Brazzaville", dΘcide dÆorganiser une tournΘe de
musiciens franτais. Guy le Querrec, quÆil connaεt
bien, lui suggΦre alors de rΘunir trois cador du
jazz franτais : Aldo Romano, Louis Sclavis et Henri
Texier. LÆidΘe fait son chemin et les voilα bient⌠t
partis sur la route, pendant trois semaines, dans
six pays dÆAfrique Centrale.
Pour conserver une mΘmoire de ces moments et de
cette formation originale, Guy le Querrec et le
trio ont pensΘ α un disque accompagnΘ d'un livret
composΘ d'une cinquantaine de photos des deux
voyages. Cet album, le premier de ce trio
exceptionnel, est paru en mai 1995 et comprend des
compositions originales de chacun des trois
artistes, Θcrites spΘcialement pour ce trio. Carnet
de routes sera couronnΘ dÆun succΦs extraordinaire.
Trois ans plus tard, les quatre compΦres dΘcident
de renouveler lÆexpΘrience, en Afrique du Sud et en
Afrique de lÆEst cette fois-ci. ½Le trio et le
griot╗ comme on les surnomme, gravent alors un
second opus Suite Africaine, accompagnΘ dÆun
somptueux livret-photos. Avec une grande ΘlΘgance
et beaucoup dÆhumilitΘ, ils nous dΘlivrent une
musique forgΘe par des ambiances des diffΘrents
pays et nous dΘmontrent que leur musique en
perpΘtuel mouvement, se nourrit de lÆΘchange.
Ces derniΦres annΘes, les concerts du trio α
travers le monde avaient imprimΘ quelques
paragraphes supplΘmentaires α ce ôroman africainö.
Peu α peu, lÆidΘe dÆun troisiΦme et dernier
chapitre discographique a germΘ : TΘmoin et acteur
essentiel du projet dΦs ses premiers instants, Guy
Le Querrec avait aussi ΘtΘ lÆindispensable passeur
vers les cultures et traditions africaines. Ses
innombrables voyages en Afrique au cours des trente
derniΦres annΘes avaient profondΘment influΘ sur
les contenus des voyages du trio en rendant
lÆimmersion culturelle totale.
Le troisiΦme chapitre discographique du projet
Romano Sclavis Texier-Le Querrec nous racontera
trente ans de reportages photo sur le continent
africain, les musiciens composant α partir de
photos inΘdites issues des archives personnelles de
Guy Le Querrec. Une prΘsΘlection de Guy Le Querrec
a servi de base de travail, chaque musicien
choisissant en dΘfinitive quatre images pour
composer. LÆalbum sera accompagnΘ dÆun important
livret de plus de cent photos.

ôenfantΘö. LÆhommage de trois musiciens α leur ami
et plus fidΦle tΘmoin photographique.

Four major personalities of the French jazz history
have imagined the third chapter of an adventure
started ten years ago.
In 1990, Guy Maurette, founder of ôJazz sous les
manguiersö, which then became ôThe Jazz Week in
Brazzavilleö, decided to organize a French
musicians tour. Guy le Querrec,one of his old
friends, suggested to bring together three major
French jazz musicians: Aldo Romano, Louis Sclavis
and Henri Texier. This idea became a reality and
our three musicians were soon for three weeks on
the road in six Central African countries.
In order to keep a memory of these moments and of
this original band, Guy Le Querrec and the trio
imagined a record with a booklet including about
fifty photos of the two journeys. This album, the
first of this exceptional trio, was released in May
1995 and includes original compositions of each
artist, especially written for the band. ôCarnet de
Routesö has been particularly successful.
Three years later, the four decided to renew the
experience, this time in South and East Africa. The
ôtrio and the griotö, as they were called, thus
recorded a second opus æSuite AfricaineÆ with a
sumptuous photo-book. With a great elegance and a
lot of humility, they offer with it a music marked
by the atmosphere of different countries, proving
that their music is in constant evolution and fed
by an exchange of culture.
Over the past years, the concerts of this trio
around the world added a few pages to this æAfrican
novelö. And they came to the idea of recording a
third and last album. As a testimony and essential
actor of the project from the start, Guy Le Querrec
was the indispensable intermediary for African
cultures and traditions. His numerous trips to
Africa over the past thirty years deeply influenced
the content of the trioÆs journeys.
This third chapter of the Romano, Sclavis, Texier-
Le Guerrec project tells us about thirty years of
photo -reportages on the African continent, the
musicians playing according to original pictures of
Le QuerrecÆs private archives. Each musician
selected four images for his composition among a
pre-selection by Guy Le Querrec. The album will be
offered with a booklet containing over hundred
photos.
A tribute by an exceptional trio to the people,
which ægave birthÆ to it. A tribute of three
musicians to their friend and most faithful
photographic witness.
