The Ork Recordings crew goes from strength to strength with four
rocking variations on a soulful theme: two seductive dancefloor trips
from Fish Go Deep and two neo acidic tech house reworks from Mark and
John.
DEEP FLOOR SIDE
Fresh from the worldwide success of their Cure and the Cause release on
their own Go Deep imprint, the Fish Go Deep feens simply ooze quality
and depth with two supreme definitions of Soul. Version 1 is an
extended etheral dubbed out trip, full of the funkiest bass around and
some ghostly minimalist melodies. On version 2 the drums begin in an
almost military fashion as the deep electronic bass pulse marches
through the mix. Both tracks are loaded and primed and shoot straight
for the hips, but then, when you have been running one of the world's
finest deep electronic nights for over 16 years, you certainly know how
it is done.
DARK FLOOR SIDE
Look who has been busy in their Stockholm studio lately! Mark O
Sullivan, from the legendary DK7 and The Mighty Quark, teams up once
more with John Dahlback to deliver some prime cut dirty tech-house.
Last month, in a glowing review of Mark and John's latest release on
Audiomatique, DJ Magazine kindly suggested that if al-Qaeda wanted to
threaten electronic dance music's future, they could do worse than
cluster bombing their Stockholm studio. But Mark and John get their
retaliation in first with a pair of dancefloor bombs. The first remix
retains some of the ghostly atmospherics of the original, while adding
an awesome keyboard hook, some acidic deep rolling bass and electrical
glitches that interweave with tight tech drums. The second remix
contains a fuzzed out, up front sinister loop, funky slapping keyboard
bass, a percussive electronic riff and a vocal deep in effects that
pays respect - rebel style - to the city where, in 1988, it all began
for a small Island off the coast of Europe.
Note: There's a noise that sounds like hum in the second track. We tried to rip again,
but it seems like it's pressed that way.
