Born in the fall of 2003, out of the angst of living
at home and spending the same 10 dollars a night on
beer from the local drunk tank, Jeff Schneider and
Jason Munchoff first started blending acoustic
guitars via Jeff Tweedy with Mini-korgs a la
Deathcab. Darling started playing out in the spring
of 2004 with bands such as Danger Adventure and He
Can Jog. By summer Darling picked up the soulful
harmonies of Jesslyn Jalayerian playing shows with
Red Krayola and Make Believe. With the release of the
first EP, Ground is Sound, in the summer of 2005
Darling has taken to the street to push their album
playing shows with Sin Ropas at the Empty Bottle and
with The Robot Ate Me at Schubas. Darling makes music
that will blend our words and thoughts with the
fabric of contemporary sight and sound.
Ground is Sound
This album is a soulful walk through your mind and
eventually to the discovery that although your time
on earth is limited, but creation will live on
forever. From the title track "Ground is Sound"
ambient beginnings followed by a raucaus chorus line
are meant to symbolize the path your mind takes you
from the cradle. The progression of the album helps
create a map of sound that is meant to take you from
point A to B. "Keyholes" unlocks your head so you can
see around and take you a step back to observe your
life on the movie screen in "Reading Lines" From
here "Nightlight" helps one realize that we are
mortal and there will always be things in the world
that can catch you by surprise. "Turning Grey" and
"Pulling Down" are coupled together to show the ups
and downs of living your life and knowing that some
things you can't change. The final track "Lights
are Low" is the bridge between where we are today and
where your soul will lead you once it leaves the
body.
