The debut album from Ameaba weaves Sixties Soul, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Trip-Hop,
Electro-Folk and Spoken Word. "Self titled" was recorded in Jamaica, London,
Frankfurt and Berlin.
You can expect a sonically fusion of a wide range of soul from rather the
classics; inspired by Terry Callier, Sly Stone, Shirley Bassey, Burt Bacharach
or early Massive Attack. Already compared to Zero 7 which misses the point,
though it must be said that both acts share a rare gift for melody, harmony and
emotion. The two years that went into the album are apparent in each detail.
With the opening track "Stay as your are", it's the silky voice of Andrew
Thompson who eases the listeners into the 11 tracks here, his vocals recall the
creamy tones and a perfect pronunciation of a `60 crooner over a musical backing
that tiptoes in unusual directions but winds up sounding perfectly divine.
