Crossing The Atlantic is a collaborative effort
between a few of the most talented, low profile
musicians in the northern Midwest. Founded as a
project to create sound-scapes to
singer/guitarist Todd Vandenberg's documented
dreams, it slowly progressed into something a
little more structured, becoming increasingly
more beautiful and ethereal. Over three volumes,
all of which available to friends only through
strictly limited cd-r pressings, CTA traversed a
variety of genres, mastering all with grace and
precision. This record demands undivided
attention, faultlessly molding the electro/indie
sound of One AM Radio or The Books, the spacey
and atmospheric genius of Mogwai or Godspeed You
Black Emperor, polishing it off with the
folk/alt country/indie amalgamation reminiscent
of Ugly Casanova. Spanning 77 minutes in just 3
tracks, minimalist vocals and maximum layers
make this a landmark listen, a piece of true
aural bliss.
