Gerd are Rotterdam based Gert-Jan Bijl and Paulo Delgado.
Occasionally teaming up with friends like DJ Pathless, Frans
Friedrich, Fred Verschoor and Peter Ernest, they have garnered
international acclaim for their sophisticated productions and
remixes. 'Perspectives' is their highly anticipated third album and
is also their most accomplished to date. Featuring guest vocalists
such as Guida de Palma, Marilyn David, Dee Ferguson, Natalie
Gardiner, Vanessa Freeman and Twana Rhodes, 'Perspectives' is a
stunning fusion of funk, nu-jazz, leftfield, acoustic, electronica
and broken beats laced with plenty of soul.
Gerd is Holland's most prolific producer of leftfield dance music
such as broken beats, nu-soul, hip hop and nu-jazz. Having worked
with people like Mark Pritchard, Tom Middleton, Kirk Degiorgio, Fila
Brazillia, Leftfield, etc., and having his music and remixes released
by labels such as LEA, Compost, Freerange, Ecco Chamber, Pork
Recordings, Op-ART, Universal Language, EMI, Virgin, etc, it is a
safe bet that Gerd would deliver an interesting take on contemporary
dance.
Along with the keyboard skills of Delgado, Gert released the 'High,
Wide and Wonderful!' album on LEA in 2001 making their debut for the
label and then a collection of Gerd remixes titled 'Modified' in 2003
which featured their interpretations of the likes of Koop, Jaam, Zuco
103 and Heavenly Social amongst others.
His solo productions as Gerd, including the exceptional and exquisite
'This Touch Is Greater Than Moods' (1997), connect with liquid
ambience, tech-jazz, funk and soft romance, sometimes sounding like a
less spaced-out Deep Space Network or Detroit's more abstract
listening-orientated excursions. Along with his Sensurreal production
partner, Dirk-Jan Hanegraaff, he's also responsible for a range of
well acclaimed projects for several highly respected record companies
around the world including Global Communication's Universal Language,
Compost/JCR, Leftfield's Hardhands, Future Sound of London's Jumpin'
and Pumpin', Kirk Degiorgio's ART, Fila Brazillia's Pork Recordings,
Mr. C's Plink Plonk/The End and K7! etc. Releases for Speedy J's Beam
Me Up! Label, including 'Never To Tell A Soul' (1994) and 'The
Occasional Series' (1996) and for Global Communication's Universal
Language label, including 'Vulcan Princess' (1997) and 'Starbirth'
(1997), have provided both Gerd and Sensurreal with a cult following
all over the world for their intriguingly experimental rewrite of the
techno blueprint.
From Gerd's Rotterdam base he also set up 4lux Recordings (4lux.com)
in 2002 which has seen releases from Phil Asher, Heavenly Social,
Zimpala, Hubtone, Amplified Orchestra and Flowriders to name a few
and caught the attention of many DJs and producers across the world
such as Gilles Peterson, Bugz In The Attic, Rainer Truby, Jazzanova
and a whole host of music lovers.
