B2 Gwen Guthrie Vs Tony Allen 4:28
Fourth installment of this super-popular remix series that skillfully blends
vintage afrobeat tracks with disco and hip-hop. Another solid effort on all 4
tracks, sure to be blazed at the Rootdown all the way to Swedish beer halls. I
am feeling the chopped up Fela beats with Rayvon on top(Supercat vocal
doppelganger), and the Mensa vs. Dimples D (he cuts the music with so much
class) mix. For the purists the Tony Allen vs. Gwen Gutherie mix sounds like
authentic mid-seventies afro-disco, while the Sugarhill mix sounds like it could
have been found on some rare French pressing 12".
