█░█ Drummer Anne Gauthier and vocalist/guitar player █░█
█░█ Victoria Morrison met in a very exciting suburb █░█
█░█ of Montreal in 1997. Moving to the big city to go █░█
█░█ to art school became a quick front for starting █░█
█░█ various bands of different genresùsome together, █░█
█░█ but most separately. AnneÆs experiences were more █░█
█░█ prominent in the world of pop rock, while █░█
█░█ VictoriaÆs were more art/technically driven. For █░█
█░█ a while, it seemed like their musical paths might █░█
█░█ never cross again, until the two friends got █░█
█░█ together for a 10 day, six song recording project █░█
█░█ in July 2004. Although this was an interesting █░█
█░█ experience, it didn't lead very far until Anne's █░█
█░█ long time musical project (critically acclaimed █░█
█░█ band The Frenetics) broke up in early 2005. █░█
█░█ Kickers was thus concretized. █░█
█░█ █░█
█░█ It immediately became clear that this was indeed █░█
█░█ a viable project, but the old demo just didnÆt █░█
█░█ cut it. ThatÆs why in April of 2005, the girls █░█
█░█ hailed a cab to a friendÆs budding home studio on █░█
█░█ MontrealÆs south shore to re-record a little more █░█
█░█ carefully. The result was an untitled 5 song EP █░█
█░█ that they passed along to a few friends, █░█
█░█ including Alden Penner, who had been toying with █░█
█░█ the idea of starting a record label since before █░█
█░█ the demise of his band, The Unicorns. AldenÆs █░█
█░█ excitement about the songs led to conversations █░█
█░█ that confirmed the future launch of the record, █░█
█░█ and sent Kickers on a very DIY tour across the █░█
█░█ American Midwest, up its west coast, and back █░█
█░█ across Canada, in the summer of 2005. Feeling █░█
█░█ more like a scientific experiment than a tour in █░█
█░█ support of a record, Kickers returned armed with █░█
█░█ new drive that would air out the songs, embrace █░█
█░█ space, pace, and dynamics. █░█
█░█ █░█
█░█ So Kickers are a two-piece duo that welcome the █░█
█░█ help of special guests. When the guests are away, █░█
█░█ audience members may very well witness Victoria █░█
█░█ playing keyboards and guitar at the same time. █░█
█░█ Her vocals are playful, melodic, and punchy. █░█
█░█ Musically, Anne and VictoriaÆs technique combine █░█
█░█ the very complicated with the very simple, the █░█
█░█ very loud with the less loud, and the dance-y █░█
█░█ with the dark. █░█
█░█ █░█
█░█ In a strange twisted way, they like to think of █░█
█░█ their somewhat new path as a balance between █░█
█░█ Helium, Fugazi, and The Who. In their first █░█
█░█ fragile year of life, kickers have played over 40 █░█
█░█ shows. They are still counting. Plans to record a █░█
█░█ full length are in the works. █░█

█░█ that Kickers are an all-female group, but when █░█
