If somebody told me ten years ago that I would like a piano record, Iφd have
scoffed. If they told me Ba Da Bing! would be releasing it, Iφd do something
violent to their dog. But, here we are, in one of those situations where
somebody is so talented, they make you rethink what you were so sure you knew
all these years. Utrillo Kushner, our pal from Comets on Fire, has done
something incredible by subjecting his piano ballads to a real studio and real
band é heφs upended all traditional contemporary notions of what constitutes
good music. True, taking someone like Bill Fay as an entry point helps to
prepare you for what Kushner has made here, but easing into the record is like
the greatest bubble bath while suffering from poison ivy you can imagine. The
album will be out February 21st with a record release party planned in San
Francisco around then.
