Anyone who enjoys the singular sound of the mandolin will be doubly
rewarded by the combined talents of Mike Compton and David Long. The
duet formed in 2003 to pursue their intense mutual interest in a
variety of acoustic music. They have toured coast to coast, as well as
conducting mandolin workshops, most recently at the Mandolin Symposium
in Santa Cruz, California. The two will be playing shows throughout
the West Coast in December, 2004.
Grammy Winner Mike Compton is among the most popular and talented
mandolin players on the music scene today. His definitive intro to the
song "Man of Constant Sorrow" on the 'Oh, Brother Where Art ThouÆ
soundtrack has received world-wide recognition. He has also performed
on the sold-out "Down from the Mountain" and "Cold Mountain" tours.
Throughout his career, Mike has collaborated with numerous acoustic
icons, including John Hartford, David Grier and Dr. Ralph Stanley. He
currently plays with the Nashville Bluegrass Band.
David Long is a next-generation musician dedicated to keeping the
heart and soul of bluegrass in his playing and composing. He has
played with the Wildwood Valley Boys, as well as the Award Winning
Karl Shiflett and His Big Country Show. Long, from Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania is a traditional stylist whose recent CD "Midnight From
Memphis" received staunch reviews from critics including Mandolin
Magazine and Mandolin Quarterly.
Their shows cover rural country blues, old time, bluegrass, and early
American string-band music. From driving up-tempo tunes, to lilting
waltzes and ballads, the witty cross banter of their instruments and
voices is an ear-filling experience seldom heard. This is traditional
music at it's best: grounded in the past, headed for the future.
