│ Avanti! is a great example of how far │
│ Italian msuic has progressed over th4e last │
│ five years or so. By adapting many different │
│ styles and influences from all corners of the │
│ musical globe, they have now created their │
│ own energetic sound - "The Happy House of │
│ Europe". In 1988, I was 'laughed' at in Disco │
│ Piu, a record shop in Rimini (the capital of │
│ Italian house), for asking to hear some │
│ Italian music. However since then they have │
│ rapidly developed their unique style. │
│ Whatever may be said about Italian house, one │
│ thing for sure, is that they never make │
│ gloomy or downbeat music. Their style is │
│ positive. The music complements their │
│ lifestyle and culture - the feeling of │
│ fiestas and their love for the weekend comes │
│ across in their production of music. │
│ │
│ Italians are known to travel far and wide for │
│ a good night out, and the DJs live up to this │
│ passion with energetic, imaginative and │
│ skillful performances. A perfect example of │
│ their adventurous spirit in the studio, can │
│ be found on RAF's "We've Got To Live │
│ Together" truly a bold but clever idea from │
│ Blind Truth's track "Why Can't We See", (a │
│ deep New York garage tune) combined with │
│ Enya's "Sailaway" (a new age chant) blended │
│ in a techno style all of their own. Italians │
│ have always had disco-dance roots since the │
│ original disco explosion of the 70s and are │
│ willing to explore all avenues of dance │
│ music, not limiting themselves to one │
│ particular style. Their use of sampling is at │
│ times obvious, however they have never denied │
│ this, and are masters of the art. │
│ │
│ I remember first hearing D-Rail's "Bring It │
│ On Down" on a blancony at a west London party │
│ and was struck by it's powerful, tribal │
│ energy. Even now it sounds great on │
│ dancefloors all over Europe. It was a great │
│ favourite at "Pure Sexy" club in London - │
│ surely this is destined to be a classic in │
│ years to come! │
│ │
│ Italian music has always had a large │
│ influence on my style personally, and has │
│ given me and many other clubbers around the │
│ world some great moments with our hands in │
│ the air. (Always proof of dancefloor │
│ success!) │
│ │
│ So, listen and enjoy a good cross-section of │
│ the Italian sound - it's here to stay. │
